I'm putting this picture up because I think the ""outside"" world isn't exposed to the truth of South Africa all that much. I think what you get to see on your tvs and read in the newspapers are selected items of news. Very biased, as "they" don't want to show you what's really going on. Though S.Africa has come a long way in many respects, it has also taken some seriously big steps backward. Things like this should NOT be happening here or anywhere else.

There has been recent killings of black Africans by black Africans. Our S.African Africans are killing any other African that is not from here. These are my country men/women slaying others simply because they look and sound different. The foreigners are beeing killed in the most horrific manner while crowds cheer, laugh and enjoy themselves.

This man burnt to death. The offices tried helping him, they rushed him off to hospital but his body was 100% covered in burns down to the flesh. There was really nothing the doctors could do. I love my country but am ashamed of how some of my people act. The S.Africans should know better, they came out of a horrible apartheid era, why are they treating their fellow African brothers in this way.

Lou - this situation is absolutely shocking! The zandspruit inofrmal settlement is no more that about 4 or 5 kilometres from where I live and I pass nearby the Kya Sands settlement almost daily! My filing clerk is hidiing for her life as she is a zimbabwe'en immigrant!

These Zimbabween people should be treated as refugees and be placed in refugee camps where they can be protected! Why are the army not stepping in? Why is our beloved president not saying anything! There is a now a mob mentality which has taken over!

What your govt is/isn't doing doesn't fit into political correctness ideology, and so is not fed to the west.

Your picture is not showing up [at least on my computer].

Can you point me to online news sources with accurate information about this?

AK Jeff, look at this sight http://www.702.co.za/news/alexpics.asp - This is a local Johannesburg Talk and News Radio Station. Alternatively look at IOL.co.za( http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=nw20080519134703108C384923 ) - which is a SA daily news paper website.

I am just off now to drop some blankets and food at one numerous organisations that have stepped in to help these people. The situation is horrible and scary and way out of control!

We are receiving news on this here in New Zealand.

It reminds me of the man who was forgiven his huge debt by the rich man, and then went and beat up on the poor man who owed him a little.

Sadly, this is human nature. Whenever things go bad, society will try and find a scapegoat. Right now there are people who are trying to make out like much of our problems are because of homosexuals and/or stem cell researchers.

I think the only thing that can fix Africa's problems is time - lots and lots of time. the wounds are still too raw, all over the continent.

LouBelle, I know that you (and PDB too) have a great love for your land and are dismayed at the barbarism that goes on there.

Much of this news does not get more than a mention and a few seconds clip on the news in the US. No history, no context, no understanding.

The US looks mighty and powerful, so I wonder if people outside were amazed to see the disaster that was Katrina, to realize that not only was the government not helping, but it had a policy to turn back those who would help and let the situation fester over and maximize human suffering. Those who were cynical had their suspicions confirmed, those who were not had an awakening to how things really are.

SA has some serious problems, but I tell you no one in the US is fit to cast a stone or point a finger, since we have a lot of our own house cleaning to do.

It's only newsworthy "over here" when it fits into a well worn narrative such as white on black violence. Black racism towards other blacks does not compute.
