Not to hijack the thread but can someone please explain to me what Taffy is? This is not something we have here. I have heard of it on US TV shows and stuff but never known what it is!

Oh and I remember when Chappies Bubble Gum was only 1c each - they now cost about R 2.00 (approx $1.00 = R8.00 - South African Currency)

My first car was a 68 mustang I was 17 and it was 150.00 that about says it all....ha ha ha , green and full of holes,

I meshed, patched, primed and painted it myself. I was so proud and it

still looked like sh#t. But I sure loved it. You just feel so independent when you get your first car.

    Cheers!

Taffy is more of a texture, I guess. Stretchy and tough, like Tootsie Rolls or Starburst? Do you have those?

Hope, I'm impressed, you painted your own car?

Cool car, Hope... Amazing you did all that work yourself, I'm impressed

I have Never bought a car in my life, My Dad and Brother have their own Auto business and have always furnished me one... Something I am eternally grateful for. Free maintenance also... Hubby is a different story, has to have a new truck now and then.

    Ataloa,

Yes, Kits were a taffy, seems like there was another flavor, can't remember it tho. I think they also came in a sucker form too.

Remember "Cat Tails" .... Now that was an odd candy...

Yes, I changed my avatar... Thank You... Just playing around, LoL

I remember stockings and garters. They came out with pantyhose when I was in junior high school.

    Hortensia,

I remember when pantyhose came out also... I was a sight learning to put on my first pair... LOL

My Grandmother had an outhouse, she collected catalogs for toilet paper. My sister-in-law's Grandmother, lived in the hills of Kentucky, she collected paper bags. They would make use of the "Bag" and then throw it out the window into the holler below....

great thread! I remember the first gas war - I remember the one where gas went over a dollar, too. My first car was a 1959 convertible Volkswagen, $250.00. My roommate and I bought it together, and we had it painted bright bright yellow, and it had a dark cloth top. I'm amazed now that we didn't get killed driving around in that thing with no seat belts and no clue about safe driving.

I'm a youngin' still but I remember having to get up and change and channel, getting a VCR (we had an RCA Select-A-Vision Videodisc player before that) for the first time, logging onto the internet for the first time and being awed by the fact I was typing to someone in another state through the computer. I remember my first computer, a Packard Bell 486 that I regularly screwed up trying to learn how it worked.

Man, this stuff is nothing compared to Mouthy's post.

I used to have to carry a bucket to every room & empty them all. When I was evacuated... I lived in a very wealthy home in Devon,( I lived with the maid & had to work.. I was 12 yrs old) But they had many rich people staying in the House( It was a Guest House) So one day I emptied all the POT'S & put Andrews Liver salts in the bottom.... LOL

So you can image the FIZZING that went on the next night. They must have been too embarresed to mention it to the lady of the house LOL
