I was looking over my list, and one thing I've been working at is developing new friendships. I had a lot of friends as a Witness, people I did stuff with all the time.
Needless to say, those are gone! I've been cultivating some new ones (there's a JW word, eh??), but it says what I mean. I've been consciously working at developing new friendships. Putting it on the list reminds me of that.
Oompa- would love to meet you. A few people PMed me about my workouts. You have to really work at it, and diet is a huge factor. I eat very clean probably 80 to 90 percent of the time. Lifting weights has to be part of your exercise, not just aerobic stuff, and you actually lose more weight by lifting than by running. Intensity is the key - no matter the exercise. A slow steady jog, or people "toning" with these tiny dumbbells - pretty much worthless if you really want to see results.
My focus has been fitness and my health. I'm getting that, and the side effects have been cool - flat stomach, toned, muscular body, lots of energy. I rewarded myself by buying a bunch of new t-shirts for summer - all in size small! Showing off the hard work!

Oomps,
After your other thread which didn't go as you planned, I think this thread deserves some more attention. I think that S4's words are very encouraging, and I agree that we now need to figure out what we want to do to enjoy life now that we don't have a thousand years or more to while away in beautiful surroundings (uggghhhh... crap).
Have you though about doing your sailing thing in smaller increments? I mean, maybe your wife is not into going with you for a year.. how about a week's trip... or a month? Is that feasible. Maybe the smaller trips can satisfy your yearnings somewhat. If you do it without your wife, she can probably tolerate you going away for a week or 2 at a time... I dunno...
I am a lover of nature and mountains. For years I have never done any hiking since my JW wife will only walk through the mountains if we are in service (which worked for me when I lived in Ecuador and Honduras, but not in NYC). Tomorrow I am going hiking with a bunch of
worldlynormal people through meetup. So I will try to satisfy my goals incrementally ( as I try to work out what my new goals are). Today is actually my first free weekend in over a year since I spent almost all my free time since March 07 studying to get my BA. Now I'm done with studying and I want to enjoy life....Just some thoughts... I hope you (and the wifey) are OK.

My husband and I were both born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. We had long bitter winters, wet cold springs and 2 months of nice weather. One year my husband won a trip to Hawaii for us and we decided after that trip someday we would live in the tropics or at least in warm weather.
We were in our late 20's and the company he worked for filed for bankruptcy. We had a 3 year old and I was 8 months pregnant. We decided this was our opportunity to make a go of it. My husband was kept on to liquidate the company and we put our home up for sale. We took a weekend trip to Florida and he figured out what he wanted to do to is run his own company. Long story short, my husband drove ahead and started his company. I stayed back, packed up the house. The movers came and I flew with 2 small boys to Florida. We moved in with one of my relatives, found a home and the rest is history. That was in the spring of 1988. My baby was now 8 months old and my older son almost 4.
We had marvelous years of enjoying 80 degree weather over Christmas, a built in swimming pool, 1 hour from the best beaches, taking the kids to Disney world no more than 30 minutes away, etc., etc. Our kids were in private school, and life was fantastic. I loved the gardening and raising orchids and bromiliads, exotic vines, large ferns, palm trees, it really was a dream come true.
Of course things change, the economy changed, and we had to change, ...etc. We are now close or in to our 50's. The kids are raised, we still have our own business, we moved several times, but the weather is still great, we have a comfortable home, and my husband still works like hell in his own business.
Forgot to add that after being forced to revamp his business we were able to travel all over Europe. So we have had many, many dream fullfilled years.
Ironically, our kids want to move back to Chicago! Anyway, I believe we have lived some of our dreams but we have a few more!

My dream is to live near the Carolina coast have a bike and cruise the roads.
I don't live near the coast but I have had a bike but sold earlier this year. Thinking about acquiring a new one shortly.
As for living near the coast the wifey said she would move if I could sell our house.
Do you want to buy a house? You would be helping one achieve a life's dream!

Someone told me it was about taking his soul for a journy and he was going to show his soul a good time. I totally agree. I want to fulfill all my dreams if possible, but then make new ones and strive to fulfill those too.
My dreams are about travelling. Meeting great people. Do things that scare me. Yes I am about living them. Ultimatetly if I didn't have to work and had unlimited funds they would come true a whole lot sooner, but alas I have to practise patience.

I always wanted to be a Mommy. I am that. Now what? Life's dream? What is that? Am I allowed to dream still?
