All I can say is that I admire Olin Moyle and his courage to tell the truth. The situation at Bethel was deplorable and almost unbelievable. I was stunned to hear about the alcohol promotion by Rutherford. I am sure that is very unusual in any organization to be encouraged to drink, in fact you would think it would be the opposite.

Glad to hear Olin sued the Watchtower and won. He is my hero.

    thanks for offering this information

As far as airconditioning, I am turning it on today for the first time. Its hot and humid. Not complaining though, its been so cold this spring.

: I knew Arthur Worsley. an interesting guy.

Arthur used to special pioneer in the islands using one of the society's two yachts as I recall. Barbara Anderson also knew him. She said he used to work the night desk in Bethel and remembers when Nathan and Audrey Knorr and other big wigs would return in their tuxedos and fine gowns after spending the evening in expensive restaurants or at plays, laughing and smelling of booze. It bothered him, knowing that the average Bethel worker bee could never afford such extravaganzas.

As did Rutherford, Nathan Knorr always travelled first class, and often bought two seats. He would put his briefcase on the other vacant seat. Someone speculated he did this because he became very uncomfortable when travelling and people would ask him what he did for a living.

I believe Knorr lived on a 7th floor and had a fantastic view of the City. His quarters were also air conditioned and he had a full kitchen and full-time personal chef.

    What a freakin' hypocrite.

I don't know for a fact, but wouldn't be the least bit surprised if all the GB members continue with tradition and travel and lodge first class wherever they go.

    Seeker4,

Yes, Olin Moyle did sue and won a $25,000 slander settlement against the WTS. They fought it for years, though and finally got it reduced to $15,000 when they paid it. Olin Moyle was dead by then.

From an "Interview with Watchtower Attorney Hayden Covington"

    http://www.freeminds.org/history/covington.htm

Covington: It took about two and a half to three days. Two and half days from San Diego and I made that trip a lot of times. From New York to San Diego; it takes two and a half days on a Pullman. Of course, we rode Pullman. We went first class, Brother Rutherford told me, "I want you, whenever you travel, to travel first class." And so I did, and Brother Heath did, Nathan Knorr did, and Freddy Franz did too, all the whole bunch of us did.

Sis. Murray: Well you needed your rest and it was more comfortable.

Covington: It's not our comfort, but we were entitled to: the laborer is worthy of his hire.

I wo0nder if the pope travels first class hmmm oops no he travels in his private jet.

    Resolved Question

    Show me another ยป

Does the Pope have his own private jet?

Another question is how would a religious organization be able to fund for something as expensive and frivilous as a private jet, aren't priests supposed to live in pioused poverty and humility?

The pope doesn't own anything. the jet is owned by Vatican City
