10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

I remember the long talks on how as Dubs would begin to restore Earth as a Paradise ... how we would have to take all the buildings down (skyscrapers too?), but where does all the junk go? How do you clean up a landfill? How do you clean up toxic waste?

Not to forget burying the billions of evil non-JWs too. Do you understand the ratio of the surviving Dubs burying billions of corpses?

This scripture (2 Peter 3:10) explains it very clearly ... God is going to burn everything and then it will be restored - not by Jehovah's Witnesses. Why is that so hard to understand? That is more believeable than expect humans to take everything down brick by brick. All the silly illustrations of Dubs sitting in beautiful fields with preppy clothes and pet lions is just not realistic. Never do they illustrate the BEFORE scenes.

I always had a hard time embracing the WHOLE stupid concept of cleaning up the destruction, burying the billions...BILLIONS....(after the birds feed on their flesh of course)....then the kicker for me was picking out which million dollar home you were going to live in.

I just thought it was because I lacked faith, which is what I was told constantly.

That scripture in Peter does make it plain how this doesn't fit. I'm sure some fellow poster will pop on here and help us understand which stunt of scriptural gymnastics they used to ignore the written word.

I was always told that Jehovah would open the goround up and swallow the large cities or anything that would be too difficult for the jw's to clean up.

iceguy, I've never heard that. I guess that goes to show that each congregation can make up their own scenerio - no facts or scriptures needed to prove their reasoning. Jah will just open up a hole and swallow a city. Who can argue?

In this prophecy God warns that he will also use other natural forces that are at his disposal, possibly a rain of antimatter that has the property of annihilating any material thing that it meets. He warns all scoffers that he will do an ‘unusual work.’—Isa. 28:21.

You've got to be kidding me. 2 Peter 3:10 is clearly not literal; its symbolic.

I think the worst Watchtower argument has to be:

Scripture A says the world will be destroyed.
However, scripture B says the world will last forever.
Therefore scripture A must be figurative!

Surely everyone can see the problem with this?

There really is no evidence about the whole cleaning up the earth after the time of the end. Peter is making direct comparison between the world before the flood that was destroyed and the coming destruction of the present world. With the flood everything was demolished and swept away with the waters - there was nothing left - there was no cleanup. The coming destruction by fire will have the same purpose - fire completely destroys and purifies. Also it is good to see that when Peter talks about the destruction of the world - he is not speaking of the planet earth - but rather the present order of things, society. He says that there was a world before the flood but that it was destroyed and the same way the current world will come to an end. The planet earth was not destroyed by the flood, but the flood did wipe out human society and also reform the earth.
