I tore my medial meniscus on my right knee a few years ago. Didn't want surgery, took glucosamine for six months. It was slow, but it healed completely.

wha happened?
My Dad had both of his knees worked on when he was in his 50's. He was jogging in his 60's all the way to age 74. That crazy guy was walking/jogging 5 days a week & playing golf 3 days a week. His 25 year old grandson could not keep up with him on a jog.
Get the surgery, you will be fine -

ACL (that's one of the ligaments that crosses the knee, from top to bottom)
The surgeon could not find the peices of it and said the nubs were "dried up"... I never had a giant injury like you would see at a football game..just a lot of sprains over the years and swelling. Doc said that it was possible that I was born without it or it tore when I was an infant of something...he'd never seen one like it before.
About 6 weeks in a splint after a 2 hour surgery... they take a donor ligament from the front of the kneecap (or back of the heel, or a pig) and lace it in through 2 timy holes from the outside. Some screws or staples and finished.
I was back to work and playing ball in about 4 months. The PT sucked.

I WANT surgery on mine.
I went to the doc and they sent me to Physiotherapy. What a crock of shit that stuff is. I should become a Physiotherapist making big bucks on quack medicine. I was lifting 5 lb weights on my leg like a little girl.
Doc: How do you feel after your workout?
Me: The same as BEFORE my workout.
Doc: Okay, we'll get you to do it some more!
Eventually, I figured "screw this" and just started to deal with the pain. I tolerate it and bike to work. I REALLY don't think my muscles are the problem. -

I tore my meniscus while I was playing basketball years ago. I had arthroscopy to correct the torn cartilage, and it was a relatively smooth operation, easy recovery, minimal pain.
I made the mistake of playing Vollyball a few months later and, I guess my knee was still weak because when I pivoted, the entire joint slipped and I tore the ACL and MCL.
That was EXTREMELY painful. I had surgery to fix everything... They did a full knee reconstruction using the center of my patellar tendon and some small screws.
The recovery time for that was a bit longer... I think I was in bed for a couple of days and hobbling around on crutches for a few weeks.

THe specialist looked at my knee today ...after i took a couple of perkesets....no pain at all ...and played with my leg and knee and then he said...."No surgery, you have arthritis in your knee...and something..about "crystals" in there..WHEW. He just gave me a new brace presciption, and physiotherapy instrucions. Well needless to say im happy about no surgery. But the first doctor told me i had torn my tendon.. he then..froze my knee and said we need to do surgery., But he wasnt the main orthopedic, only the emerg doctor. ..thank god for that. happy happy...

Why not get one more opinion, just to be sure?

Very good advice... otherwise, if there is something wrong, you risk doing greater damage.

Twice! Won't share the results as they are not related to cartilage tear but never been the same.
