Terry I meant to ask a few threads ago, have you been reading Ayn Rand lately? just wondering.
When I read my very first philosophy book (10 Philosophical Mistakes by Mortimer J. Adler) I was greatly surprised at two things.
1.Philosophy could actually be a tool for practical thought and not just navel gazing.
2.Wrong philosophy has done as much damage to the world as bad religion.
I discovered that I needed to examine the premises behind my values. Adler was an Aristotelian. Aristotle invented Logic (non-contradictory view of the Universe).
Aristotle led me to Ayn Rand.
Rand invented Objectivism. It is an Aristotelian way of using Logic and Reality to identify Values.
Using Adler and Rand I did what the F.B.I. does: A SWEEP FOR BUGS!
I detected so many bugs, viruses and false values in my thinking--it was no wonder my life was a mess and I had fallen prey to Jehovah's Witnesses ridiculous cartoon view of Truth!
I inject a lot of what has helped me think straighter into my posts. The source of many of my views comes directly out of Mortimer J. Adler and Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism.
