Hopefully a change of leadership will get America heading in a slightly different (and better) direction.
It all seems such a waste to me ... after 9/11 there was just so much sympathy towards America even from traditionally 'hostile' people and the opportunity to build on that and create a new balance in the world was pissed away in a few short years by a small bunch of Neo Cons while a nation stood idly by (even cheered them on).
I blame Blair for a lot of it. I remember someone (I think an ex US ambassador to the UK) being interviewed on the radio saying that they normally relied on the UK to act as an anchor to prevent the administration running off and doing silly things but Blair seemed obsessed with being Bush's bible buddy and photographed with him so off they both went down a trail of destruction and chaos.
Unfortunately, the American people will be the ones who pay a heavy price - not directly, but in a sinking economy that can't afford Iraq and loss of respect in the world while Bush will just get to walk away and count the money that he's made from the wars he started.
