Why do JWs forward mawkish e-mail stories?

I have a dear preachy JW friend who always sends me these e-mails.
I suppose these anecdotal stories get passed around like a chain letter. I guess they are seen as being 'upbuilding'. Whether there is a grain of truth or not is something else entirely.
