if they really do that, delete elders whose kids go to college, I see a lot of elders drifting right on out of the org. Being deleted as an elder really makes a person lose face and feel ashamed, just the sort of feelings to start them on a course of avoidance - stay away from the KH to avoid the stares and speculations of the "brothers."

They don't even ask their elders to "step down" or "resign." They "delete" them, just like you delete (erase forever) a word in a word processor. One second you are a respected long time faithful shepherd. The next second you are deleted like a worthless sack of shit.
They take someone who has slaved and sacrificed for years and years to become an elder and then as an elder has sacrificed family time, vacation time and work time to sell worthless Watchtower shit, prepare and rehearse worthless Watchtower talks, give worthless Watchtower advice to their flock and then, because they want their child to have a better education and life than they had, the
Watchtower surgically "deletes" them..
They are nothing but cold-blooded evil bastards.

They really seem to be tightening up.
I marvel at a brother on stage talking about the evils of visible bra straps.
I mean, to discuss as a serious topic, not disease, poverty, helping someone to the DC or making it through a really tough day.
Nope.

The best thing is: I don't ever have to listen to them again, don't have to get riled up, don't have to groan inside.
I stay home; I read (currently Gentile Times Reconsidered).
Not having to listen: WONDERFUL.
I hope they actually make sex, entertainment, and fun and relaxation disfellowshipping offenses and have everyone just send in their disassociation letters. And no one would want to go in.
It is weird in that they seem to be going in two directions at once - reducing meetings but then doing or saying the things I've listed.
All in all, they are creating a hollow edifice of fake-a-tude.

This "loosen up on college, then jerk your chain so hard it breaks your neck" thing is not really different than the mess they made of the late 1970s post 1975 failure and Ray Franz & Company.
A very few leaders back then attempted a sort of liberal reform - hoping for a more open and scriptural attitude towards the actual people of this organization. I always go back to Ed Dunlap as an example of that wing of the party.
A very few little putblications - one or two watchtower study articles, the pocket book on James, etc...began to appear.
It was rapidly, forcefully, and brutally put down by the power elite.
I think we are seeing this same reactionary behaviour now, in 2008.
