I just read another posting about a fella fading, and it brought to mind the following.
On the weekends, I go to a local coffee shop in the AM for coffee and a little breakfast taco. I usually sit at the counter, where I also read my electronics-related magazines and I also write thoughts in a gridded-paper notebook.
A while back, I noticed this older couple that would come in and also sit at the counter. I immediately pegged them as JWs - it was too easy. The man, in a suit and tie. The woman, wearing a dress and hose. They had that little 'yearbook' thingy - which has shrunk a LOT since I was 'in'. Anyway, they'd do their prayer, and then read the daily text. They would eat their meal, and then leave - in time to make it to the 9am Saturday morning field service meeting at the local KH that was/is about 10 minutes away.
On Sundays, almost the same thing - but they would be in their 'sunday best'. They would leave in time to make it to the 10am Sunday morning meeting.
Well... things musta changed in the last few months. I still see them... they show up on Saturday, and Sunday... but they don't seem to be all ready to get to their meetings. The man will still be wearing a suit... but it is more relaxed. No tie, and the shirt open and unbuttoned one or two buttons. The woman, still dressed nicely in a dress.
There is no 'text' discussed, nor any other books. They come in, and enjoy their meals, pay and leave. They don't leave 'in time' to get to their KH for a meeting. Often times they will leave 30 minutes after the hour... which would put them very late (actually - 30 minutes into the meeting - and too late for field service).
I just observe. I have not talked to these people... other than to greet them. They do not know that I am a former JW, nor that I know that they are (or were) JWs.
I just think that something must have happened... they seem to be fading. I wish I knew what it was, but if I start talkin to them, I may scare them (APOSTATE!!!! RUN!!!!!), and they might run back to their 'safe' religion.
Regards,
Jim TX
