Fact? Not quite.

1. I will assume that you are looking at the ARIS 2000 survey. If you know of a better one, please give the reference.

2. That survey only covers adults in the United States. That is less than one sixth of JWs worldwide.

3. The plurality of US JWs are white, not black or hispanic. Saying that the majority of US JWs are non-white may be correct, but this is not the same as saying that they are black.

4. It is inaccurate at best to say that US JWs are uneducated. I suspect that nearly all are literate and have the basic arithmetical skills to produce an accurate field report most of the time.

here in the wash dc area alot of halls when i first came here were about 50/50 black to white

many more white bro andsister have either left from being tired of selling books on sat to go to the lake more or as i was often told

they have "Apostate Leanings"

i have never heard of large numbers of black bro having "Apostate Leanings"

and most are not well educated- most of the white bro
1 owned their own homes- blacks rented
2 owned thier own biz- i mean real biz- blacks didn't unless it was that cleaning job at the bank at night
3 MORE WHITE BRO QUESTIONED THE ORG THAN BLACKS

and this was just my observation

when i was at bethel i was in Harlem- "Negro Capitol" of the USA smile

only whites bro where the few bethelites - the mindset among black folks in general is different many times to whites and i feel it is due to personally life exp

the condition of many blacks as well as those who have lots of problems makes them RIPE FOR THE PICKING when an Org like wt comes along-

If you go to Potomac MD and offer paradise to the folks up there they will laugh at your silly A$$, but take those same mags to SE DC

and you will get a different response- and we see the same basic thing in countries where there are lots of problems
the WT offers a cure all for all ones problems

and then life will be good they tell thier memebers

as for women- in my hall we had 47 single women- from 25-45

we had an entire bookstudy of all single black women

in most halls the women out number men many times over

women are often a depressed group and when the message of wt is offered they respond like anyone else would to an offer for something better esp if the product has a 100% money back ganrantee, backed up by God himself

how can you lose with an offer like that most folks would say

and in my view as a black man i can't think of anything worst than being a Black JW- case in point

in the little town i'm from in NC - there is a private white country club- if a white bro left the org he has at least Systems in place that he can return to- in 2 weeks he could now join the club and spend his sat playing golf

he could sit on the board at the bank , the school . town council, fire dept, and the list goes on and on

but a BLACK Man living in a little town like i'm from-- if he leaves wt he stills works on the line at the mill- he will not be asked to joined the country club- the bank will not be asking him to sit on the board etc

there are many advangtages that a white bro can enjoy by leaving and I AIN'T MAD AT HIM, but when it comes to black bro

he already is in charge of 125 folks lives who obey his every word

for him to give that up and and nothing in return HE AIN'T LEAVING

when i look back at the educationaly level of most of the black elders i grew up knowing it is down right embarrassing to think that

this guys were setup before the congregations as being EDUCATED BY GOD THUR HIS MOUTH PC

man that was the biggest joke- so for me to be black and a JW i can't think of anything worst

I live in a medium-sized city in South Carolina. Our city has gotten 3 new congregations within the last 10 years. One totally Spanish, the other two would have been totally black, except they got some white elders to move there.

The other two congregations are 75% black. In all but one cong., the PO's are white. The reason that there is a blk PO is because he agreed to moving congr. if they made him the PO.

The sisters have always outnumbered the men 2 to 1 - sometimes 3 to 1. At least half the sisters were single mothers (blk or white).

In the small southern towns - the numbers are almost exclusively black, unless a Spanish cong - then almost 100% migrant workers who decided to stay or will leave short when crops are in.

Income ratios? Black women are at the bottom. The jw's who fare the best are retired military, who then work full time afterwards.

There are exceptions - but the average is the same as in your area. In our congregation - there was two middle-aged college graduates, one black woman, one white woman (both educated before becoming a jw) and the only children in college don't attend meetings anymore.

College is still definitely "frowned upon" in our area. However, technical school is ok.

Some are leaving the org., but quietly. Quite a few whites - and one brave blk sister who actually wrote a letter of disassociation.

I think being a black man jw isn't that much above being a white woman jw. I think being a black woman jw is below, along with the Spanish, etc.

I DO think it's better than it used to be for the different ethnic groups, in general. But I don't think it's better for women in general - about the same, except in some areas - the girls can go to college.

JW women in the South will mouth the scripture where "the woman should be a worker at home...." and be working full time at one - if not two jobs. An elder's wife actually did this during the Watchtower study. I was sitting in front of her, listening. I was so amazed, I actually turned around and stared at her while she answered. She was the hardest damned working woman I've ever known - with 5 kids to boot!

After the meeting, we talked about it, and I asked how she could mouth such a thing seeing that she worked EVERY DAY of the week? "Well, I believe in it in 'spirt'." Her husband was mad at me, btw. I just ignored the jerk.

Imho, jw women may give up their authority (intentionally or unintentionally) - but they're the backbone of the WTBTS. The grunts. Without them - the generals might actually have to work - or at least get the sargents to work.
