It certainly is a diverse board we have here , isn't it ? We all come from different backgrounds, walks of life, and had different experiences in growing up as children into adolescence. So it should suffice to say, that we will all have a variety of takes on various issues that come up on the board. And everyone's take is important in allowing each person to come to WHATEVER conclusions they want to come to on various threads.
Everyone here has different subjects that interest them, politics, religion, human relations, dealing with ex-Jehovah's Witnesses issues, camping, travel, Bigfoot, entertainment, many other topics. And that is what makes it so interesting - the diversity ! And we have the mods here to make sure those discussions go forward in a way that freedom of thought is carried out in a way that respects others according to the posting guidelines of JWD.
I think many of us have benefited from these supportive engaging discussions in one way or another. What do you enjoy about this JWD discussion board ? How have you benefited , and what types of discussions do you enjoy taking a part in ? As always I look forward to your responses . Peace out to all of you, Mr. Flipper

hello mr. flipper
good topic
I have been out now for 6 months and JWD has been very good for me in that others on this board can truely indentify with what it is like to be a JW. The constant meetings, field service. The elders and CO always wanting more, your are never good enough. The ansewer to everything is "The New System". There are some very compassionate and lovely people here.

You know for me, just being able to speak about a subject (being raised a witness and df'd) is an enormous weight off my shoulders. I have walked around with this monkey on my back for many years and so many people do not get it. Even couselors and other professionals, they literally have to experience the JW phenomenon to believe it. So being open about a normally closed part of my life has been liberating.
With that being said I am studying pre-law and naturally love to debate. I really keep a close eye on myself because so many others do not enjoy this and frequently get offended by it. So I add where I can in any topic of interest as long as I'm not worried I'll be too tempted to debate an issue.

Flipper,
I assume this is your passive agressive way, one that you have perfected, of continuing the thread in which I called you out over this whole issue as to whether this was designed as a discussion board, or a 'support Board'. Of course you know my feelings on this one, as I always speak straight and do not attempt to slide around issues as you tend to.
You make this point:

It does not seem to enter your head that you are actually supporting my own views. Think about it Flipper, what you have noted above are all topics for discussion. As I have noted, this Board is a perfect vehicle for imparting information, and resolving discussion and debate. It is NO substitute for professional support, and if you think it is, you are deluding yourself.
You need read no further than your buddy JK666's post today to see just how flawed your logic is. You should be publicly urging him to get professional help rather than {{{{{{{{cuddling}}}}}}} him and empowering his self-destructive behavior. We see this pattern repeated. Richie being another example of a person {{{{{{cuddled}}}}}} online and encouraged into making some pretty dire choices in life.
Perhaps as an elder you thought yourself 'trained' for 'every good work', but believe me, that is one helluva fantasy to be carrying over into a post WTS life.
Grow up man!

MEGAFLOWER- I'm glad you came onto the board ! I enjoy your posts ! I agree many here identify with what we went through as witnesses. The elders always wanted more and more from us. But there are people here who really care, you are right.
MILLIGAL- You are right ! A lot of people don't get what we go through leaving the witnesses . I'm glad you have been able to open up about your life on the board. Hopefully you have received some encouragement -

Having babies, milk-engorged breasts, viewing pornography, Obama, Tiger Woods, vacations
We definitely have our diversity.

Simon: Its a great place to be able to come to. You are making a difference in life to many folks that have left...and this place helps those trapped in to cope each and everyday. Good job! Thank you!

I love this board, because it helps me to be aware of what's going on in a cult that still claims my mom. I also feel better trying to help others who are attempting to escape the cult's clutches. Sorry as I am that it's true that many have suffered the fallout of the WTB&TS, I like having a group who knows what I've been through.

There certainly is diversity here!!!
I agree that a lot of support can be found here. I also agree that some need way more than we are capable or licensed to give. I never hold back from suggesting counseling to a troubled poster and I've seen flipper and others do so as well.
I think you can be both supportive and urge someone to see a professional. One does not cancel out the other. Human kindness (or a kick in the pants, when needed) can be offered w/o taking the place of professional help.

......dare I say.....we are like a 'brotherhood/sisterhood" and we can agree to disagree without making it a loyalty issue....
