Hello! Is there a list of WTS changes since 1995?

144,000 is no longer considered a literal number. It has now been revealed to the witlesses as being symbolic.
I saw that posted in another thread so it did not come from me. So just chill out.

Just because somebody somewhere posted it some time on some discussion board, doesn't make it true.

144,000 as a literal number is still very much a part of JW orthodoxy.

However, I expect that at some time in the future, due to the change in the "1935 cutoff date" doctrine, there will be "noo lite" on this topic...especially if the number of "partakers" starts climbing rapidly.

Didn't think I'd missed that change!

    Sir82 - I fully expect that change too . . .

Yeah - dropping the literal view of the 144,000 would be huge - and I wouldn't have missed that!

To be truthful, I never really believed it was a literal number for several reasons. I think at some point they will probably change it from a literal view to viewing it as a symbolic number referring to the complete group of anointed who will reign in heaven.

Thanks for all the information. I've noted the links posted. I appreciate the time you've taken to respond. And, no [laughing] I'm not part of the Governing body.

With the blood and voting, it sounds like a lot of "yes, you can ..." but really "no, you'd better not." The information about the sealing of the 144,000 is interesting. I was wondering what they were going to do because of the advancing years -- and you can spread 144,000 people just so far throughout 2,000 years and counting.

I was wondering if their definition of Babylon the Great was still the same; and if the UN would still play a major roll in "her" destruction.

I assume their understanding of the King of the North and South has had some tinkering since the fall and breakup of the Soviet Union.

I remember seeing an article about Ray Franz's leaving the WTS in either "Time" or "Newsweek" magazine way back in the early '80s. One remark he made was that the Society would have to change their "teaching" on the 1914 generation. (And, sure enough they did.) When I saw the article, I mentioned it to some elders -- they hadn't seen it and were incredulous even though it was quoting him and in a reputable news-magazine. The Society had already begun its "Believe ONLY what we tell you! Everybody else is lying!" campaign. So I was admonished that I shouldn't believe that Ray Franz had left the organization or had been quoted. They wound up calling the Society and were told, "Yep, it's true that he's left. He's now part of the Evil Slave."

Once again, thanks everyone. Have a great life.

Would I be correct in saying that since the 2001(?) UN NGO stuff they haven't said in print that the UN is the "disgusting thing"?

    I don't have a WT CD-ROM so I can't (be arsed) checking . . .

It just occured to me that although they have defended their position on becoming an NGO to get a library card (ROFL) I don't recal them re-iterating their "The UN is the Disgusting Thing" stance.

    Anyone checked?

When the elders came by to straighten me out after I quit going, they tried to hammer me on the literalness of the 144,000. One idiot actually said - now, James - notice that this same verse says that there is only one lamb. Now that is literally ONE...so, when it says 144,000 - then that is literal too.

I just looked at him and asked, so then, Christ is LITERALLY a LAMB?

The got up and left not long after that.

Pubsinger, checking the 2006 CDROM I can't find anything post-2001 about the "disgusting thing" unless I missed something. The only CDROM I have is the 2006 edition. Nothing shows up on watchtower.org either after 2001 - only quotes from their Bible.

*** w99 5/1 p. 15 par. 8 "Let the Reader Use Discernment" ***So in 1919 "the disgusting thing" appeared. In time, the League gave way to the United Nations. Jehovah’s Witnesses have long exposed these human peace organizations as disgusting in God’s sight.

*** w99 5/1 p. 17 par. 15 "Let the Reader Use Discernment" ***Revelation depicts "a scarlet-colored wild beast" that exists for a time, disappears, and then returns. (Revelation 17:3, 8) This beast is supported by world rulers. Details supplied in the prophecy help us to identify this symbolic beast as a peace organization that came into existence in 1919 as the League of Nations (a "disgusting thing") and that is now the United Nations. Revelation 17:16, 17 shows that God will yet put it into the hearts of certain human rulers who are prominent in this "beast" to desolate the world empire of false religion. That attack marks the outbreak of the great tribulation.

Blondie, are you making the point that there was nothing more said about the "disgusting thing" after the 1999 issue?

I do see your point also that apparantly they were not at all ashamed to reprint this garbage about the U.N. even after they got caught with their hands in the NGO cookie jar. Pure arrogance - and so typical.

Here is a major organization change that I didn't see mentioned. No Governing Body member sits on ANY board of directors of ANY Watchtower Corporation. The Society created 4 new Corporations and installed other sheep at the head of each one. Most, including myself think the society did this to insulate GB members from Corporate lawsuits, particularly the many, many child abuse cases that are pending and coming.

As an armchair lawyer it is my opinion that won't shield the GB from personal/Corporate lawsuits because of rules they put in place while they were officers in the Watchtower Corporate Mother Ship.
