Sometimes I watch episodes of classic Star Trek because when it originally ran we had a B&W teevee and I want to see it in color. They have also redone the cheesy spaceship scenes with CGI.
So, whenever Sulu comes on I pay close attention to him, knowing now that he is gay. Some funny scenes: The mirror universe Sulu leers at Uhura. Acting. The space hippie episode where he acts interested in one of the hippie chicks. Acting. An episode where he is at the helm and leans over to Reilly and asks with a grin, "Let's go to the gym." Not acting. -

i knew when i was 10 but didn't have a name for it or anyone to talk to about it.
i played with other little boys and male cousins
i have no attraction to women.
i had a huge crush on captain kirk
i had a had crash on michael dorn from ST:NG
i have had a lot of sex with men, it is fun.
i kissed a girl once and it was not fun
people say things have come a long way, but daily i hear anti-gay comments
sometimes several a day. movies about gays still almost 100% have sad
endings, for example, Broke Back Mountain, gay man gets killed with tire
iron.
the word gay is now used by teenagers and some adults to mean gross
or stupid.
we can still be fired from our jobs for being gay in 38 states or thrown
out of our apts. or homes.

My thought is that in the episode Return of the Archons when Sulu was on the planet and the robed guy corners him and pokes him with the stick that zaps him, then he gets that goofy cult grin on his face and says he is "of the body", that is when he turned. Knowing he is gay makes all those episodes clear in "new light".
