Abbadon,
I tend to agree with you the JWs are not the worst(something less that worst yes), in the sense of being the worst in treatment of their members.
Although in the area or loss of lives the JWs, are definitly one of the very bad ones.If someone lived a trillion X longer than you, and had a billion X more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?

I feel that the worst cults are the ones that involved YOU. I am sure there are many out there that have their own levels of "badness" but to me................what has hit me the hardest, is what is the worst in my book. Of course we all know who they are.

The unburied dead, "those slain by Jehovah," will be so enormously many that even the carrion birds and scavenging wild beasts could never take care of their consumption. The burial of even what remains after these lower creatures have their fill would be stupendous. Doubtless the Almighty God will use some highly scientific means, whether including antimatter or not, to dispose of the surplus of decaying bodies in a speedy and sanitary way. This remains for the survivors of the "war of the great day" to see and witness. We remember that Noah and his seven fellow survivors of the global Deluge were not burdened with burying the human victims of that world catastrophe after they came out of the ark and renewed Jehovah’s worship on earth
and if you ever think about questioning it
"Avoid Independent Thinking .. How is such independent thinking manifested? A common way is by questioning the counsel that is provided by God's visible organization."
Considering that they don't just not know, but defiantly refuse reason - that's pretty bad.Bang

Well, on an subjective level, obviously the cult that screwed-up one's own life is the worst.
But objectively, as I said, being subject to sexual abuse or dying were accidental results, rather than design features of the CULT of Jehovah's Witnesses. Other CULTS were far more damaging. Some seem to be developed soley as a method of making money, and I don't think this was the original intent in the founders of the Borg. It seems to have become it's main purpose over time on a organsationally implict level; like, that's how it acts, but it's component parts think it's about god, poor fools.
Yes, say it loud, it's a CULT.
I didn't realise I was putting words in your mouth Edward... sorry!
But I'd be interested in your definition of 'cult' and 'sect'. Here's the American Heritage Dictionary's definitions
Sect;
The double think the Borg imprint on their adherents regarding the 'fact' JW's are not a cult manages to stick in peoples' minds for a long time, even in the face of impartial dictionary definitions clearly indicating cult is a far more appropriate term than sect for the JW's.
1. A group of people forming a distinct unit within a larger group by virtue of certain refinements or distinctions of belief or practice.
2. A religious body, especially one that has separated from a larger denomination.
3. A faction united by common interests or beliefs.
ETYMOLOGY: Middle English secte, from Old French, from Latin secta, course, school of thought, from feminine past participle of sequ, to follow.Cult;
1a. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often (emphasis mine) living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. b. The followers of such a religion or sect.
2. A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
3. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.
4. A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.
5a. Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing. b. The object of such devotion.
6. An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.
ETYMOLOGY: Latin cultus, worship, from past participle of colere, to cultivate.If someone wants to be really anal about it, let's say 'high control group', as semantics is fun, but when it actually bogs down discussion it's best to select terms that are agreeable to both parties.
But I don't get it. Does calling it a sect make any difference to the LIES, the PAIN, the SORROW that it inflicts on people? It doesn't make me feel any better.
If it looks like a cult, walks like a cult and sounds like a cult, it probably is a cult.
