It happened yesterday. The traffic ahead of me on the expressway suddenly came to a stop. I had no problem stopping. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the semi coming at me. Sure enough he banged into my van. Thankfully I had a cushion behind my neck which prevented me from getting whiplash. The damage was minimal--may need a new bumper, but it could have been much worse. The driver was very apologetic.

How fast was he going? Did he skid much? I am glad you are not hurt and your car isn't totaled.
I rear ended someone one time and I stopped just as my bumper lightly touched theirs. The car was an emerald green, rented Lincoln Continental and several senior citizens climbed out rubbing their necks. My car was filled with my kids and their teenaged friends. I had turned to ask them to quiet it down to a dull roar and their extra weight and e=mc squared times PI made it extra darn hard to stop, but there wasn't a scratch on that bumper and the kids got a kick out of watching the "old geezers" over dramatize the whole ordeal. The cops looked bewildered that the seniors had called them and the seniors said, "Well, sir, this here's a rented car."
As a truck driver myself the number one concern is stopping distance...the driver should always be aware of his cushion in front of him...he was definately at fault he did not allow enough space between you and him...
I rear ended a semi..does that count? ..not paying attention as traffic was creeping up on a stop sign...I gently bumped the rig on the back of his guard...do you think he/she even noticed? dont think so...LOL....
I ended up with some scuffs on the front and knocked the logo emblem off (body shop buffed most of the scuffs out and reattached the logo)....
In all seriousness... glad you are OK...and could let us know after the fact....
that could have ended badly and we would never have known about it unless a fellow JWDer knows you and heard about it and let us know...

He was almost stopped or it would have been bad. Still it was scary seeing him coming. I had my van checked at a body shop, and there's no structural damage. May get a new bumper, but the damage is barely noticeable. Just might let it go and save the insurance company $700.
It does upset me how people tailgate. So many don't allow much for stopping time.
I was in a porshe 911 once as a passenger....I will never forget the sight of a semi with rear wheels locked down..smokin like a bomb went off.....coming down a huge hill....we could not move....he could not stop........it seemed like slow motion.........as he smashed into us and spun us wildly off the road.....what a blast........oompa
