No, this is not a joke. Having actually managed to survive through the entire 3 grueling days of the DC after attending the Friday session today (hit Sat and Sun last weekend) I was initially going to make a criticism of some of the parts & points at the DC. However, something that I witnessed today changed my mind.
It was during the morning session, before the song. A very elderly sister was sitting on the ground level of the rink, in the very first row. She was highly visible to all 4500 people in attendance. She suffered from what I believe was a stroke in the middle of the talk. A couple of brothers from first aid rushed over, stretched her out on the ground, and began frantically administering CPR right there, not even 15 feet away from the main stage. More and more brothers started coming out from First Aid, they brought a wheelchair and a stethoscope, still doing CPR, sister appears to be dead (completely lifeless and stiff).
All 9000 eyes in the convention are fixed on this morbid spectacle, and do you know what the speaker does? He finishes his part on schedule, then the chairman gets up and thanks him for giving that encouraging part, and introduces the next speaker. The next speaker gets up on stage and begins deliviering his part AS IF NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Meanwhile there appears to be a dead body laying just a few feet from where he is.
Eventually they loaded her into the wheelchair and rushed her off to First Aid. She was never even acknowledged by the speaker; they never gave an announcement later in the day; I haven't a clue whether she lived or died. I didn't see her again.
So I decided to dedicate this thread to an old woman who, in all likelihood, sacrificed her entire life to a greedy publishing cult and was rewarded by being treated like a mangy old dog that you take out back and shoot. The way they scooted her off it was like they were just trying to hide her so she would stop distracting people from the main circus ring.
This was at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, today, June 20 2008, if anyone else happened to attend.

Wow, that is truly sad and pathetic.

Wow, now that IS appalling. A lot of old folk die at the convention; usually a couple a year where I was going (big enough convention). It's a bit like ANZAC day veterans; they save themselves up for the parade, or other folks who hang on until Christmas or their birthday party with a zero.
Here's to the memory of that poor woman.

Apparently at this same convention, the year before I moved into the district, an oldie had a stroke and he did die. It was right in the middle of the drama.

I seen this happen at a circuit assembly or SAD at the local assembly hall on more than one occasion. One sister died on the back row...paramedics came in the side door by the aisle she was in, worked on her...carted her dead body out said same side door....program never stopped, though no one was paying attention....
sad....
I tried googling the story...nothing yet....

You could watch the obituaries in the newspaper or online. If she actually died at the District Convention™ you can be certain to see a request for donations to the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. It would have been what she wanted, dontcha know.

They took her out in a wheelchair, not a stretcher, so she might have been alive. It was in Kitchener, I don't get the Kitchener papers.

They saved more lives by keeping the dubgrub coming. Sometimes in life you need to let the eggs crack and be a mess on the floor infront of 9000 people.... Eh to make an omlet.

Dear gods. In some ways, I cannot POSSIBLY BEGIN to IMAGINE that they did not acknowledge what had happened in any way... but then again, why should we be surprised? The actual truth of the matter is... she will not even be acknowledged at HER OWN JW FUNERAL.

Rest in peace, joy, and light, Dear Nameless One. May you find what eluded you in this life.
