Well, my wife is doing awesome. Spent the last two days with my wife as we celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary together at the hospital. Not a likely place to celebrate it, but at least we did celebrate it together.

Got her roses, a balloon, a card and a nice special gift.

She's eating well, just hope she does well so they can take the feeding tube off her and soon.

She's off the vent everyday now from 5 AM to Midnight. That's great news. Hopefully soon it'll be 24 hrs a day.

Gotta go, got lotsa cleaning chores and stuff to do.

Keep those prayers up, it's working like a grand! :)

Hi Yiz,

I just read this thread - wow - both you and your wife have really had a spell of bad things happening. I'm so glad that your wife is getting better now.

I returned to JWD when I learned of the upcoming closing down. I too am saddened to learn that JWD is going away like H2O did years before.

Just found out that tonight is her first night to be off of the vent for 24 hrs. So I really hope she can tolerate being off of the vent that long.

Just got back from the hospital.

Wife is doing fantastic, she's off the vent now, but the trait is still in. She's has an oxygen mask around the trait. Today they tried to cap the trait and use an nasal oxygen line. She got scared of it, but went ahead to try it. She felt like she can't breathe with the way it was set up. Personally, I think it's physiological on her part. She's afraid of anything new and more importantly, she's deathly afraid of not being able to breathe. She's been through alot of emotional trauma on account of what's been happening to her since early May when this all started.

Nonetheless, her SAT showed to be 100% with the new setup, but I think overtime, like how they weaned her off of the vent, it'll take time to wean her into a new way. Especially when she transfers to another facility that will work more for her much needed physical therapy, that trait will need to be capped at all times. They won't take her uncapped. Thus the reason for needing to make this change before the transfer takes place.

She's eating pretty good, but not as much as I would like for her to eat. She needs to eat at least 50% of her meals 3X times a day for an X number of days before they can finally remove the feeding tube, so that too will need to take time.

Hated to have to come home, but work calls tomorrow. So I need my rest for that. I'm just glad she's making good progress.

New update on the wife... She's been sick all day today while I was with her for two days. Come to find out she hasn't been getting her Reglan for her upset stomach since she got back from ICU, so they know about it now and will make sure she gets it tomorrow when the doctor comes in. Reglan helps her vomiting and such... a wiki will explain what it does... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metoclopramide As of late, she's been resisting getting that trait capped and still not eating well as she should so they can take that feeding tube off. I hope the Reglan will address that issue with her eating and improve upon it. As for her trait, she's still scared of it, it's gonna take some major coaxing to get her into this so she can be accepted at another facility, they won't take her with her trait uncapped. Overall, the visit has been good, it could have been better, but....*sighs* More later...

OK I'm sorry but I purposely avoided this thread. I am so sorry for what u are enduring. I avoided this thread because I thought that negative news might effect my Mom. I know it's nonsense but that's what the human mind does.

FINALLY!

She got her feeding tube taken off!!!!!

She looks so beautiful without it on her nose. I can see her whole face now! She was scared to have it taken off, but she's so brave. I'm so proud of her!

She also is getting better with her trait being capped, she lasted a half day yesterday. She is also getting better at eating as well. Hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks she can tolerate having her trait capped 24 hrs a day.

As soon as it's all said and done, she'll be ready to transfer into a recreational facility that will help whip her into shape so she can then finally come home.! :)

My wife is doing fantastic so far, she just had her tracheotomy replaced by a smaller version of her old one. She's tolerating it a whole lot better, even with it capped. So I think she's gonna be just fine with it. Her old one was giving her a lot of problems.

She's eating much better, but at the same time she's on a special liquid diet since she's a little bit overweight, so here's hoping that her weight loss will benefit for her overall health. We'll see how that goes.

She's getting pretty close to being ready for a transfer to a recreational facility. I predict it'll take place within a 1-2 week time frame. I just hope that whatever facility that she goes to will have everything she needs, a dialysis center close by to have a dialysis specialist to stop by at the facility to take care of her needs 3 times a week as well as getting her recreational needs in order to get back into shape so she can come home.

Keep those thoughts going, it's working like a grand each and every day! :)
