flight attendent had
instructed the women to be
certain their purses were placed
under the seat in front of them...
and then said to the men:

If any of you gentlemen
are carrying a purse,
we are not here to judge.....

BUT a flight attendent will move
thru the cabin to make certain your
shoes match your purse...

seems you might be riding
a veritable fashion wave.....

I'd love to know what part of TX you live in.

Our local Sheriff started doing something similar in Victoria, TX after the Twin Tower attack. Which brings to mind who would care if something happened there or even hear about it? Get over it little places! Nothing important will EVER happen there!

I remember this girl from work back in the late 70's....her husband carried a purse, like a shoulder bag

I was rather in shock....but he was totally cool with it, she said that's just him! She didn't mind.

I had this old homemade "purse" (denim bag with a shoulderstrap) I used to use when hiking the canyons of s. cal. I was able to carry a few essentials, but toss it behind my back if I needed to gorge scramble. I thought of it as a parfleche with a shoulder strap.

I have a Mountainsmith waistpack that is huge, it too has a shoulder strap. The waist belt tucks neatly away so it can be carried with the shoulder strap only. In that configuration it resembles a purse.

The female handbag thing is just one definition of a purse.
