"Among believers who are Catholic, nearly 80 percent surveyed believe other religions can lead to a right relationship with God. More than 70 percent of Orthodox Christians agreed with the statement.

Only among Mormon and Jehovah's Witness believers did fewer than half of people surveyed agree that other religions can lead to eternal life. Thirty-nine percent of Mormons surveyed agreed with that statement, and 16 percent of Jehovah's Witnesses agreed. More than 80 percent of Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu believers agreed other religions can lead to eternal life. Among Muslims, the majority was smaller, at 56 percent.

    ...

She said Christians who are open to the idea that other faiths have validity may not be rejecting the idea of Christ as the only path to God so much as they want to refrain from appearing that they, rather than God, are judging people with other beliefs.

THE SURVEY also found majorities of believers other than those in the Mormon and Jehovah's Witness faiths believe 'there is more than one true way to interpret the teachings of my religion.' "

I find that statistic interesting! 16% of JW's don't think they are they only ones who have the truth!!

Exactly! 16% of the ones surveyed don't believe the official church doctrine!! Maybe that's why they're slacking off on FS? They don't think the folks need to be converted to be saved?

That sixteen percent are all you lurkers and "faders" who don't want to get shunned by family for leaving ! Just think if you guys actually sucked it up and left like you wanted to, The yearly report would be awesome!!! Ah, I don't blame you, sometimes I'd like to be able to say hi to people at walmart too, even if it would be uncomfortable....

Man, those "16%" of Witnesses who think others outside the Borg are in line for salvation, are obviously:

    1. real weak in the Troof
    2. Owners of smurfs and/or Crisis of Conscience
    3. Possessed by Satan
    4. Independent thinkers
    5. Not yet baptized

This is actually a good topic. Every religion has their own way of salvation. Some say that only by believing in Jesus and accepting Him as your personal savior we can have eternal life. However, if we look at the Bible closely, we can see the true way to salvation and that is by keeping God's words as absolute. Let's see what the Bible testifies regarding eternal life.

John 6:53-55 [ 53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.]

Jesus clearly said that "unless you eat His flesh and drink His blood, you have no life in you". So here we can see that, from Jesus Christ Himself, that salvation is given by eating His flesh and drinking His blood and not just by believing in Him and accepting Him. Now that we know the Jesus body and blood gives eternal life, how can we receive it? In the Bible, Jesus gave us a way.

Luke 22:7-20 [ 7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover."

9 "Where do you want us to prepare for it?" they asked.

10 He replied, "As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?' 12 He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations there."

13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God."

17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME."

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.]

There you go the Passover of the new covenant gives eternal life. Some people say that Passover is only for Jewish but here we can clearly see that Jesus set us the example on how to have eternal life. Jesus didn't keep the Passover of the old covenant where they would slaughter a lamb and eat it on it's appointed time. It was Jesus Passover of the new covenant, the bread and wine which gives eternal life. Only by keeping Jesus words absolutely and not insisting our own fixed idea we can have eternal life. God bless you all.

I believe that the "need" for salvation is a problem that God created in order to extort concessions out of people and deprive them of their full enjoyment of life. And then this same God that created the "need" is the one that provides it, contingent on sacrifices and obeying rules that mean nothing.

That being the case, I do not see the point in being "saved". You only get "saved" into a life of never-ending stagnation and unfulfilled promises. It's just that some religions demand more sacrifice than others, and that some (like the Witlesses) are particularly damaging in imposing their beliefs on the public.
