It was many years ago, it was around 1990, and we had a visit of the C.O. And a young one asks the CO if he can attend to Wedding Ceremony of a relative that is no Witness.

The CO said with a kind of superior look to us:" What does a Christian doing in a Christendom's Church(and in our case was the Orthodox) were Demons are dancing and rejoice during the ceremony. It is not a place for a Christian. You should stay away from there at all means, to avoid any Demonic contact.....

After leaving the WT I did had the opportunity to see from fist hand what is happening to the Demonic Churches, I have seen Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox...

Well I didn't see any Demons dancing around, and all of them they are gloryfying Jesus...specially the Psalmody of the Orthodox, and Catholic Church. All I could hear is praising Jesus and how sinners we are and we need Him to save us. You don't hear anyone telling you about a Faithfull Slave, or how supperior we are from the rest of the world, like the Pharisees, or any directions of how you should act in your personal life. Jesus is the centre of the Christian Faith...I guess that is why I didn't see them around...

In elementary school, our music teacher had her class walk to a catholic church next door to the school to see this old huge, organ..she was the organ player for the church.

It was the first time I had been in a church..any church, even though I thought it was beautiful, and the organ was wonderful, I felt to much guilt and fear. I was afraid of the demons that probably attached themselves to me. I thought jah would be disapointed in me. I also never told my parents because I thought I would be in trouble for going.

I went to many a family wedding and funeral while I was a witness. I even stood up and sang the songs. My mum never made an issue of it, she is a very staunch JW but she has the ability to gloss over the things she obviously doesn't agree with. I am a perfectionist and found this approach impossible, so always felt guilty. Don't remember any dancing Demons though.

Some circuit overseers are SUCH jackasses, acting as if their opinion should be viewed as the final authority, and that people should obey or else be viewed as disloyal.

From what I remember, the Society viewed attending a wedding like this as a personal decision (please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm quite sure the C.O. went beyond what the Society wrote.

The WTS does what cults do so well -- in this case, quite literally -- demonizing other religions. Their literature refers to churches as the haunting place of demons. Meanwhile, their Kingdom Halls are the haunting place of Pharisees and pedophiles.

Of course they are going to tell you that the demons are invisible (and therefore, you will not see them flying around the building). However, if there were demons there, you would see visible signs and not be able to use science to explain them. (Another reason the Washtowel likes people to flunk science).

And no, there are no demons flying around in the churches (visible or not). People actually are praising Jesus. They are rightly praising Jesus for encouraging independent thinking (which he actually did, setting people free from God's scripted laws and binding restrictions). Notably, if Satan was in one of those churches, he would only be adding to Jesus' message of independent thinking and freedom.

Gopher, I have an issue of the WatchTower from a few months ago. I don't have it in front of me, but I remember in a Q&A section in the back someone wanted to know about whether or not they should attend the wedding of a non-Witness. From what I read, the writers did say it was a choice one would have to make and think about, but in same paragraph, I could not help but notice how the writer used a guilt trip. In other words, "If you want to go, fine, BUT do you really want to disappoint Jehovah and have Him cut you off for associating with practitioners of false religion? Do you really want to bear the responsibility of possibly causing others in the flock to stray from the Truth and face Jehovah's wrath by setting a bad example for others ? Other than that, do what you want." What a crock!!!!!

There was also a study article about "personal conscience" (the ironing is delicious!). There were two examples of sisters who made the choice to either attend a wedding to support worldly hubby, or the case of Sister Borgy who doesn't attend because she doesn't want to offend anyone's sensibilities. Both are praised for using their "consciences" to make a choice.

the first church I went to after I decided to leave JW and search for God, I looked so scared in that church. The friend that took me with her said "You look like you've seen a ghost." and I replied, "I'm looking for them They're supposed to be here."
