Not born in. I thought it was harmless and the right thing to do.....liked the social aspect of it. There were some huge red flags early on that I just ignored. Looking back I can clearly see I used extremely poor judgement in sticking around even for the first year. Wow, what a brain.... 25 plus years devoted to a cause that was a lie.

this is so interesting - I also was a third generation JW. My grandfather was a Bible Student. There were only two Bible Student families in his part of Wyoming back in the day.

I got scammed. The witlesses promised among other things that they would set me up with the opposite sex if I joined. Then they promptly japped out on that promise, claiming that I shouldn't even be thinking of that.
Of course, by that time I was baptized. So I was stuck in for a while, until I could rearrange my circumstances so I could waste their time and energy worrying about my skipping the boasting sessions and getting my obligatory one hour of field circus (often dummy "service") a month.

My mom studied with the witnesses. Back in them days, things were much different. What else was there? I'm talking about the late forties.
