Do you remember talks about how we serve Jehovah and not an organization?

I remember a talk that a good friend of ours gave when he became an Elder back in the late eighties early nineties . He said in part of that talk " We serve Jehovah not an organization " and he alluded to a sentiment that if one day the organization began to make claims it was more important than God or wanted us to do something contrary to God's word , than we had to be ready and prepared to know that was wrong and only worship Jehovah . It is something that stuck with me because at the time I just could not imagine what he meant ...I mean Jehovah's directing the Organization right so why would they ever steer us wrong .... (.sorry I just gagged a little ) But here is the thing ....this was back when he was a new fresh idealistic elder , do you think he ever thinks back to those words now ? I really have been wanting to call and ask him .

I bet talks now a days don't include such statements . Those words began ringing in my ears over the years like when the baptism questions changed , when the magazine came out showing the break down of acceptable blood fractions and non acceptable ( where is that in the Bible ?) and when I started noticing at conventions how much emphasis was put on following the FDS instead of Jesus . When the Elders informed me the society's function was not to help out in social ways such as helping the poor, But only the preaching work , I just felt that put the final nail in their coffin for me.

Do they still say things like that anymore ?

    They sure do!

In fact, they made it clear to members that instead of anyone saying, "The Watchtower says ..." replace that with "The Bible says ..." and instead of saying, "Our Governing Body shows us ..." use "The Bible shows us ...". Pretty slick, eh?

    Watchtower/Awake magazines = Bible

    Governing Body = Bible

Yes, but they also claim not to protect pedophiles, and anyone who can read knows that's not true!

    Governing Body = Bible

I beg to differ. Governing Body = God

Sacolton, they also directed the membership not to use the term "The Society teaches such and such" anymore, and say "Jehovah's Witnesses teach such and such" instead. It sounds better.

    The "Bible Teach" book says:

From "What Does The Bible Really Teach?", chapter 18, p. 183 (emphasis mine):

However, baptism is not a mere bath. It is a symbol of something very important. Going beneath the water symbolizes that you have died to your former life course. Being raised up out of the water indicates that you are now alive to do the will of God. Remember, too, that you have made a dedication to Jehovah God himself, not to a work, a cause, other humans, OR AN ORGANIZATION. Your dedication and baptism are the beginning of a very close friendship with God—an intimate relationship with him.—Psalm 25:14.

All too often, the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger will put out something equating them (and the organization they run) with God Himself. Disobey the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, even on matters where they blatantly contradict the Bible itself, and it is as if you are disobeying God. Even if they later correct the doctrine, and the new doctrine is what you have been going by all along.

Judge Rutherford said once in a talk he gave that he was not the boss of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

But in fact, Rutheford had absolute control over all aspects of The Watchtower and the congregations (companies as they were called then).

He said just the opposite of how things were!

The Worldwide Church of God members really believed they were not "serving man"...like the other churches out there.
Herbert W. Armstrong was "God's Apostle", simply carrying out the directives of God, and passing them along down to the earthly part of "God's Government".

They could argue with you all day that they were serving God rather than men.

    Interesting, huh.

I have never found that phrase but this is a way the WTS puts it:

    *** w97 1/15 p. 22 par. 21 What Does God Require of Us? ***We must serveJehovahwithhisspirit-directedorganization.

*** w97 8/1 p. 8 par. 2 Serving Loyally With Jehovah’s Organization ***Yes, in all aspects of life, we see God’s people determined to serve loyally with Jehovah’s organization.

*** w96 1/15 p. 6 They Assembled as Joyful Praisers ***Serving Loyally With Jehovah’s Organization" was a talk that showed that loyalty is vital for God’s servants.

    *** w92 11/15 p. 21 par. 12 Serve Jehovah Loyally ***WewillbeimpelledtoserveJehovahloyallywithhisorganizationifwerememberthatthereisnowhereelsetogoforlifeeternal.
