My brother was in a car crash and was bleeding from his kidneys. My mother refused to allow him to take blood, even though doctors thought he would die.
He didn't die and Mom was "proud" of him for going along with her in refusing blood (he was a teenager at the time). The fact that he lived without the blood only made my mom feel more self-righteous, if that's possible.
Sick people.
