I wasn't CONVINCED it wasn't "The Truth" until the late 90s. But I believed I could make a difference with the people in the Hall by being more reasonable and encouraging. In reality it was a waste.

A good example were the "Studies in the Scriptures" series, especially "The Finished Mystery".

    Gregor,

You know what? That old Studies In the Scriptures series was really good and perhaps their best work. At least the first three of four books of it. Not for their Biblical content mind you but for the writing style which was captivating. The reason for this is something I did not fully understand until Barbra Anderson explained who wrote them. Hopefully this secret will some day be revealed by her.

In the beginning I thought they had the secret of Bible Interpretation with God's spirit guiding them all the way to Armageddon but I soon begin to question all the shenanigans that I saw going on inside the Kingdom hall. Asking for money for everything under the sun when they declared they will never ask for money. The salve labor. The hypocrisies of the Governing Body. I was told they were not like the Pope, untouchable. You could talk to them like a friend. Boy was I disappointed. I always kept my reserve.

I actually thought it was the truth. Must have been Ignorant, in it for 33 years.

Before I opened this thread, I thought you meant the kind of jaydub that never read the huge "Theocratic Library" in his living room. I wasn't that type, but...

Did you ignorantly accept whatever "Mother" said, just because "Mother" said so??

Yes. Yep, I sure was. I expended plenty of mental effort on justifying why all worldly sources that contradicted the TrashTower were wrong. A plusgood doublethinker, I was, till I wondered why the "Truth" was making me mean.

Yes, I was ignorant. When it is all you know (3rd generation), your true blue, no really worldly associates, don't go to college, then marry someone in the same boat you really don't question. I was on automatic pilot my whole life. I really didn't see any holes until I went back to college at age 35. When we experienced a mini shunning because I was going back to school coupled with the fact that I'm learning more logical thought processes at the same time, that's what really made me stop and rethink everything. I just got a copy of C.O.C. and I'm thinking very clearly now. Being ignorant is much easier when your entire family are JW's
