An added point for "THIS GENERATION"

    “THIS GENERATION”

    I was born in the year 1932! If someone were to ask me: “Are you part of the generation of 1914?” In all honesty would I be able to answer in the affirmative? How could I since I was born in the year 1932, 18 years later. At my birth was I not the beginning of a new generation of people? When my first daughter was born was she not also? Likewise my Son’s. Then when they had children were not their children part of a new generation. ? On and on we could go with this discussion. I think though the point has been made. Jesus illustration: “note the fig tree and all the other trees” only fits the “harvest season,” “ the conclusion of the system of things” when “all of the trees would be in full leafage. That is where we now stand. All of those alive right at this moment all around this globe are the generation He was talking about.

    In 1914 they only saw the “beginning of signs of distress.” They did not observe the full and complete “sign” of the “presence of Christ in Kingdom Power.” They would have observed only the buds on the trees not trees in full leafage as we do. This is just an added point to my discussion on “this generation.”

    HUH?

    This guy makes as much sense as the WTBTS ... What's all this tree stuff? How are we trees?

    As for "This is where we now stand" how is where we stand today any different in your scenario than, say, 1950? or 1975? or 1990? All of those dates were 'real close to the end' according to JWs.

    "All those alive right at this moment .. are the generation he was talking about" - is that right. So you now are the sole interpreture of Jesus message now eh? How do you know that it's the people alive today? What about when they are all dead and gone. Will it then be the people alive in 50 years? Your weak explination is weaker than the garbldy-gook the FDS spewed in 1995.

    Oh, I get it, you will be able to pin-point the exact 'generation' once the "Great Tribluation" starts (maybe, or maybe not till after the big "A"?). So in this case, Jesus' prophesy is total bunk and worse than useless since there is no way to know what it means till after it's done. Good job there ...

    Namewithheld;

    "When there all dead and gone" the KINGDOM will hold full sway! Lets hope that will not be long in coming. Oh by the way under Canada's Charter we all {both you and I} have the right to freedom of speech, opinion and the freedom to express those opinions. When I read the comments of many on this board even though I may not agree with them I respect their rights to say whatever they wish. I do not purposely try to insult anyone with sarcastic insulting remarks such as the one's here. When you do that you are telling the individual in question that he doesn't have any rights and freedoms. Most of you would be the first to scream your guts out if anyone violated yours. But you do whatever turns you on. I got the hell out of the congregation because of shit like that! Nothing ever changes does it? Same old- Same old.We don't have them here either do we?

    Bill:

    A question for you.

    According to the reasoning in your post above, one could conclude that there has only ever been one generation since Adam.

    Isn't that a bit of a stretch of the term? It seems to remove the whole point of Jesus saying anything.

    Yeah! It is a bit of a stretch. But I am not the one who said that.That as you said was a conclusion that could be arrived at by others. How you read that in there I'll never know. I was only dealing with the time period from 1914 onward. From Adam to wherever was not even in my mind. I was simply supplying my reasoning on the matter as I saw it. Now if I am incorrect in this reasoning you would only be doing me a favor by showing me scripturally where I am wrong. If what you say computes I will quickly change my view. I am really only interested in understanding the Bible correctly. "One man sharpens the face of another." I really believe that. No one has all knowledge. We need to be able to reason together logically and sensibly in order to gain the proper understanding of any scriptural matter. Those really interested in spiritual things would approach it that way. Those only interested in belittling others have their approach too,don't they? Bill

    Hello, Bill.
    I remember a fellow using a similar argument at the door once. He read 2 Tim 3:16 to the householder after which the latter promptly replied that those conditions have existed as far back as history is able to go. The fearless advocate of truth then made the comment that although these things have indeed been present with us for millennia, today, this very day, these things have escalated to an unprecedented level and so because of the scale upon which all these things were happening, it was proof that we are in the last days. It was almost forty years ago when I first used that argument. Since then I have brought forth a generation of children who have, in turn, brought forth yet another generation of children. And today, 2 Tim 3:16 is truer than it was forty years ago and if this world continues as it’s doing now, forty years from now, it will be even truer if for no other reason than there will be more people to be bad.

    Bill, it truly does not matter when it comes. To the contrary, it seems important that this knowledge be withheld. Not even Jesus was privy to it (at least not up to the time he was on earth). Some knowledge is best kept hidden. Some knowledge must be kept hidden. Would you change your lifestyle if you knew for a certain when the end was coming? Would you live your life the same way if you knew for certain that it would come long after your passing as opposed to knowing that it was coming within a few months? I think so. But, like everyone else, you really don’t know and so your life is lived differently than if you had that knowledge. That’s why the knowledge is withheld.
