  Here in the last four or five years or so, the Watchtower has been viciously attacking internet porn, chat rooms, and social websites like they are the Devil.

  I think what is happening is this:

  The WBTS can't come out and demonize the internet as a whole because it is far too practical and most of the West needs the internet to function. It is a fact of life. It exists. But they can attack parts of it. Chat rooms. Internet dating. Pornography. They can convice people that the computer needs to be in the main room so that people in the household are not tempted to get involved in such things.

  But I think the real reason is that they don't want people accessing sites like this, freeminds.org, or countless other websites devoted to exposing the WBTS. Further, there is youtube and google video which can stream right into your home.

  They can't come out and say that these websites exist and that they should be avoided because that would only encourage people to visit them, especially those who don't realize that this information is even out there or perhaps they never even thought to look. If they can convince people that the computers need to be in a common area, members are less likely to visit "apostate" websites or view other "apostate" authored material.

  Witnesses are not stupid people, just brain dead. Once they could see much of this information, their minds would be activated again and, I think, many people would be free. There would be some psychological damage from breaking links with the Watchtower but this would still create a problem for the WBTS.

  There is a leak in the Watchtower dam and it's only a matter of time before the truth comes gushing

  through to expose their lies and schemes. Young people are plugged in constantly. I know 8-year old

  kids that have laptops and cell phones! The Information Age is here in full swing and there is no stopping

  the real truth from being revealed. Indeed, the light is getting brighter and brighter and I have confidence

  that the youth of Jehovah's Witnesses are going to leave in droves soon.

  Internet porn was only the problem with the elders. With the rest, they were worried about too much exposure to other views. College is a danger because it both exposes students to the internet and to critical thinking.

  I liked the video, it was soft spoken and not over done. It didn't raise alarm bells, but made some good points. I never realized that they had changed 2 Cor. 13:5, saying Jesus was "in union with you", rather than "in you." I looked it up in 4 other translations and all say Jesus is "in you". This is a scripture that the dubs use a lot too-"keep testing whether you are in the faith..."

  Having a brand name for their god, Jehovah, makes sense too. Sets them apart. A generic god would never do. So, I spent 30 years in a multi-level marketing scheme. I guess you can market anything, god included.

  I think this was one of the big things that made me start thinking about the Organization as a whole. All along there had been things that I disagreed with or had problems with. But after I realized that there were many scriptures in the Bible like this one that they had changed solely to support their own doctrinal teachings and viewpoints, that was when the lid came off.

  You know what occurs to me about this - and only this thread brought the thought completely together - ?

  JWs on newspapers or magazines - well, they are OK if they are like Time or the Wall Street Journal. People magazine, or any of the men's magazines, Cosmo or others probably are worldly. So make your choices carefully.

  Movies - well, the Lion King is OK (I guess it didn't have anything pagan in it), but anything R rated is off limits.

  TV - again, no sex and violence, but the news or educational TV is probably OK (so long as it doesn't show breasts in a medical perspective).

  Public Library - again, avoid sex, violence, demonism, false religion, evolution, COC, etc. But it OK to have a library card (just not to the United Nations - like we do).

  Individual choice lies in the realm of all the above -

  BUT - the Internet lives by far different rules. No longer does a witness get to make a choice. The ONLY internet really suitable is the society's own website. Really, you should block your computer so that you or your kids cannot get to anything else. Even Emails are probably suspect and should not be done. No texting during the meetings, for example.

  First time I have ever seen the society effectively try to ban an entire media - just for what it is, without concern for content, or letting the witness himself use his own conscience.
