so much debate as to why this happened. Gas prices being the culprit are as offensive as rediculous a reason I have ever heard.
To lord it over JW's for years about all those in Africa and 3rd world countries crossing jungles and traversing crocodile infested rivers to get to the book study, and then, when gas hits $4 /gallon in the US its now too "expensive" to drive to the book study????
That fabrication is a slap in the face of all JW's the world over that do more than cross the street to go to a KH !
There is no money to be saved by moving the Book Studies - so what are the quantifiable benefits to the org?
- Less stress for over burdened elders that are leaving the ranks cause they have to work more to feed their families and make ends meet
- Liability - likely many of the abuse cases were connected to the book study - if so then cancelling it does 2 things - 1 - it takes this element out of the "pedophile" equation & 2 - it is a "demonstration" by the WTS that they are "doing something" to reduce the risk/exposure to kids
- tighter control on how the books are studied. While i think this is the least likely case, it may be that the BS is treated too casual by the conductors and so information is misapplied. Cmon - how many of us havent heard a completely wrong answer only to have the BSO say "good thank you, next paragraph." ??
I believe this decision is a dually based on elders and litigation. However if I have to pick just one - ELDER BURN-OUT
