It is just a kids league. If this 9 yr old has a freak ability to throw the ball WAY harder than normal for the age group that is really cool but it is right for the responsible adults to step in and use some judgement before some other 9 yr old gets his teeth knocked out or worse.Sorry, but I'm just not buying the safety angle. As has been brought out, a kid with less control over his pitches poses a greater danger, regardless of velocity. To say nothing of the fact that kids this age, and even younger are encouraged to play sports that are far more dangerous, such as football and hockey. This isn't about the safety of the kids, it's about the fact that certain parents can't deal with the fact that a talented kid is making their less-talented kids look bad. It's hard to live vicariously through a child that strikes out all the time.
Is this right? League bans 9 year old for being too good!

in that age group, this kid is probably the best athelete on the turf any given day. I'd play him at 1st or RF ...and bat him 3rd or 4th.
Then the soccer moms will ban him for being a long ball, .400 hitter.
this country went to hell-in-a-handbasket when we quit "keeping score'
I need to barf now.

If they don't want him in Little League, the Mets desperately need some pitching help.

LOL at the steroid comment. He's almost ready for the big league. Next thing you know he'll be dating Hannah Montana, have a couple of illigitimate kids and get arrested for riding his bike under the influence. I figure he'll need elbow surgery when he's around 12.

And if he works on a curveball surgery will come at age 11.

wha happened?
I remember little league. My Dad absolutely hated the parents manipulation of setting teams up to win with the right combination of players. My Dad refused to get involved so I was always stuck on teams with rookies or poor players. Several parents would gets so out of control at games that they were not allowed at games. Parents would volunteer to umpire and they would make shady calls to make sure certain teams didn't win.
The ultimate though was one year the team I was placed in had all rookies except for myself and one other. We didn't place #1 but we were #2. It was embarrassing to see this pool of rookie players beating the other teams.
When I read that story it reminded me of all the politics that went on back then. And so it continues. -

have a couple of illigitimate kids
I hope this statement has no connection to the fact that this is a Black kid?

Snowbird??? now, now, touchy touchy. I didn't know he was black until you posted the pic. It was all part of my take on professional ball players in general.

Gregor?
I was seeking clarification which you provided beautifully.
I don't agree with the "illegitimate," however. Children, especially, don't need negative labels.
Otherwise, too true about the professional athletes.
