Typical....say the OPPOSITE of what REALLY is the situation.

When Judge Rutherford was alive, he said during a convention talk that he WASN'T the Boss of the Jehovah's WItnesses, but in actuality, he WAS!

Same thing here....tell the Big Lie that the opposite of the truth is the truth!

    sKally:

Care to address the EFFECTIVENESS question?

I've yet to hear you answer it in all the times you've mounted your "my-way-or-the-highway" soap-box on this site.

How many JWs can you PROVE you have helped to wake up?

Not some pie-in-the-sky estimate based on phone calls and flyers. Actual, verifiable, JWs who have awakened due to your efforts.

The purpose of this question is not egos & bragging rights.

It goes straight to the question of what method is most likely to be EFFECTIVE.

As to the overall timbre of the talk, it was the usual stuff: Guilt, Fear, Coersion, & a few candy-coated Carrots.

That's why the sentence: "We don't force feed our children spiritual food" stuck out so much. It was as VM44 put it so well:

tell the Big Lie that the opposite of the truth is the truth!

James_Woods description was on the money as well.

Yknot - are you trying to be a fairness monitor here, or are you actually doing the apologist thing for the JW parents?

    I guess I am just pro-parent's rights.

BTW... all of the parents in my KH either married worldly people or married worldly people willing to convert. Despite all the publications, and urgings from the stage and podium, strict adherence is dying.... I am of a generation who was raised very strictly but at the same time should have grown up in Paradise. Most of us rarely spank our children and spend most of the meetings outside socializing while the kids play on the grass with their toys. We fib on FS, we still live 'double lives' to some extent, endorse college, attend spouse's church, and generally ain't the JW parents of the past, most of us are 'trapped', or simple prefer certain traditions of being raised JW.

There will always be zealot parents regardless of denomination.

I couldn't possibly begin to know for sure, as to "how many ...". Actually, I do know of at least two. That is not the point of my posts in this thread though. Nice skirt. sKally

    James woods is right on!

If JW's don't force-feed their children then how would they define "force-feeding"? Well let's see....There would need to be several meetings they would have to attend weekly....lots of study and underlining....pressure increased to submit on elder's kids....of coarse, a dress & grooming code, not to mention limited association with anyone who doesn't believe the way you do.....

    Naw.....that's not force-feeding!!! Gymbob

    Nice skirt.

Why thank you. BTW, how did you know what I was wearing?

    Bada-boom.

Seriously sKally. It's not a skirt. We are at an impasse and, IMO, we should just agree to disagree. But I'm willing to give this one last try.

Please let me know if any of the following bullet points do not accurately reflect your viewpoint on what people like me should be doing:

    1. Once a JW realizes that there's something not quite right about the JW religion, she/he should have the courage to do further research.

    2. Once a JW realizes her religion is not what it claims to be and that, in fact, it has policies and doctrines that cause harm, up to and including the death of innocent people, she should take action.

    3. One of those actions is to clearly inform her fellow worshipers exactly what is wrong with the JW religion.

    4. To fail to inform fellow worshipers is morally wrong.

    I agree with points 1 & 2. We part ways on items 3 & 4.

It's not a skirt. It's a difference of opinion and morals.

Please let me know if I have accurately expressed your views, and if not, where the inaccuracy lies.

Um.... I was born a witness. There are (or were) 4 (FOUR) meetings a week. Sunday Watchtower study and public talk. Monday night you "studied" for the Tuesday night Theocrapic Ministry School and Service meeting, Wednesday night you "studied" for the Thursday night book study, Friday night you prepared for the Saturday morning service meeting. EVERY morning you read the "daily text". So, yes, I was literally force-fed WTBS crap every damned day of the week until I was old enough to escape. Even on vacation you had to pack a suit and bring your bag full of books so you could go to the meetings wherever you happened to be on vacation. It sucked. I'll never put my kids through that crap.

    Thanks.

Wow, Dorktacular! Sounds like you had "exemplary" JW parents. (blech)

Mine were too, but not all the time. With Dad being a busy elder, Mom wasn't always able to make us jump through the hoops you outlined on a consistent basis.

I almost forgot about dress clothes on vacation. Kids really love that.
