Reproduction is the driving forve of evolution, so why does evolution not simply favour the genes of those that reproduce the most...I.E. not the most fit, intelligent, etc.
and if this is the case, why does the world not fill up with rampant nyphomaniacs?
Because evolution is full of crap. Blast away at inflamitory comments, I won't take the bait.
If you are talking about humans, then the world is full of rampant nymphomaniacs. ;) We are extremely sexual creatures.
Other animals seem to need to spend more time surviving than mating. Sexual selection and Natural Selection also play a part. Just because an organism can reproduce a lot it doesn't necessarily follow that it's progeny are more fit than others (they might not all survive to reproductive age).

Put it this way....
Humans have evolved to a level that's pretty good at surviving, so you would think that now, the most important factor in spreading your genes would be simply to have loads of offspring.
Wouldn't this over time cause the gene pool of our society over-all to proliferate with genes which have the tendancy to spread themselves (i.e. the sexy gene)?
As far as I know survival of the fittest has nothing to do with being fit in the athletic sense but in fitting in.
So it is what ever fits in with the environment that survives.
Those that reproduce the most will be the creatures that are able more easilly to survive until reproductive age due to some advantage over other animals or through chance circumstances.
