I'm reading the public edition of watchtower for September and it says that "Jehovah" means "He Causes to Become". I've never seen this before... Is this the JW's definition of the tetragrammaton?

Still reading the same article... John 3:16 is interpreted in the NWT as "exercising faith"... To me this is fundamentally different than "believing" which is how the major translations express it... How irritating!!

I like how they describe the god of the old testament as "loving." yeah, right.

It sure is. I have heard the same definition several times while I was in. Of course, He never ever fulfills any promises. Instead, He puts more obstacles and conditions in my way, and then claims that I should have been doing more anyways. Hence, no reward.
I guess that's what you get for serving the wicked. And Jehovah is the epitome of wickedness.

Isn't 'He Causes to Become' simply another way of saying Creator?
I said this at a group study once. Went down like a lead balloon then as well.

Yahweh , however means " He who is". In his words to Moses he said " I AM WHO I AM" yet the WTS translation in the New world translation says " I shall prove to be.". This is I think to blur the line between Jesus words " Since before Abraham I am." ( NWT " I have been ") The Jehovah chap means something different to Yahweh, is a tradition of man and in my opinion PAGAN." Woe to you scribes and pharisees for you put the traditions of man before the word of God" - Jesus.
Why on earth would you name yourself in the beginning " he who causes to become " when you are the Almighty Supreme one [ Indeed he who is ]( Jehovahs Witnesses explain that this means all his promises will come true ) Did he change his name by deed poll or something ?
So then, who wants to come and worship the man made god Jehovah ? " Sanctify your name indeed ". PAGANS !!!

Interesting that the '70 WT actually admits that "He Causes to Become" is a verb "form". I have just recently read a most interesting book that confirms that what some consider God's Name ("He Causes to Become") in Hebrew actually is a VERB, not a NOUN. So the Watchtower's terminology saying it is a verb "form" could be construed as somewhat misleading. (Sound familiar?)
How many names do you know that are VERBS? Interesting question.
What I got from reading that book (The A - Z of Paradise) was that "He Causes to Become" is actually a metaphor for the task that awaits all of us in this life and that is that we 'cause to become' out of what is actually a clean blank slate when we are born. I would highly recommend the book for so many of its amazing insights...funny that I just recently finished reading it and then saw this topic here today....
