Getting Sick

That is so funny. I remember in the early 90's or so, there being a real "outbreak" of chronic fatigue among witnesses. I also remember the fragrance allergy thing. A couple of women I knew were allergic to the new carpeting in the hall. I forgot what they did to cope with that. Another had a hard time going to the conventions because of all the different perfumes the women would wear.

It is true....I don't know anyone outside of the religion who also suffers from those same problems.... Mickey Mouse: It is interesting what Combatting Mind Control said about needing rest from the pressures of being in a cult. One of the ones who had chronic fatigue was a regular pioneer in what was apparently a bad marriage (they divorced, both were DF'ed, etc.).

They always have the men's final at Wimbleton on Sunday morning. I would develop a headache each year to watch it live.

M.E., also known as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are unfortunately very real and there are many people who are not jws who suffer from these diseases.

I used to think a sister I knew was faking when she said she was allergic to scents. She came to the memorial one year and by the time it was over, her face was swollen and red. She had lost her voice and was short of breath by the time she left. She didn't want to miss this important meeting. I never judge whether someone is really sick any more. I take them at their word.

I am aware that fragrance allergies and chronic fatigue are real conditions. The incidence of this sort of thing would appear to be greater inside high control groups than in the general population. That is not just my own observation but that of cult experts. I am not saying people are making it up but maybe the physical pressures and stress of being in a cult make members more prone to such conditions.

I never faked sick. Only because my mom was such an alrmist that if I said I was sick we went to the emergency room. as per Ferris Beuler....A visit to the doctor is worse than school. Maybe not worse than service though! LOL

"..not a single worldly person afflicted." I am sure this was your honest observation, but you have to realize that a lot of those you knew were probably witnesses. I realize that a lot of jws do suffer from illness and the constant drain of always needing to do more is probably responsible.

I used to teach a support group for people with these diseases and they were all "worldly" persons. So, I could say that no jws had the disease, but that wouldn't be true. I guess the terrible suffering I saw these people go through kinda makes me a little sensitive when others don't take it seriously.

    Sincerely, cl
