Is the WBTS under the assumption that householders will suspect that Witnesses charge money for their Bible studies? As often as the WBTS prints that the world is fully aware of the Witnesses and what they do and teach, I can't imagine that anybody would think that the JWs ask for payment for services when it comes to Bible studies.
It was in the Watchtower study yesterday, I think in the very first paragraph.
er
Why does the WBTS always stress "free" in free home Bible study?

Yes it was discussed in the COMMENTS... thread. They just throw it out there in the hopes that maybe, out of the 6 billion people in the world, 1 or 2 will be interested in something free. Can't do any harm.

And to think that they had this brilliant idea long before the "Video Professor"...you know - the one where the first CD is free (plus shipping and handling), but that they will never stop hounding you to buy more and more if you take the first free bite.
Come to think of it, street drug pushers may be in on this concept as well...

It's just another one of their ploys to instil and project the sense that they are "oh so much better" than everyone else who dare to pose as teachers of the Bible.
The unspoken sentiment that goes hand in hand with this is: "We don't charge like Christendom does!"
(whether or not all Bible teaching outside of JW-dom charges or not is irrelevant. A sweeping generalization based on anectode is good enough)

Like the local drug pusher. First one is "free"!

Sometimes, even "free" is overpriced.
Anybody want to spend an hour each week having a janitor explain a story about a dead carpenter from 2000 years ago... free?
