What can You, my friends recommend as a first Bible for an adult male? To be specific, my brother. I've got about 10 JW Bibles, but don't know if one of those would be appropriate.

If they are a Spanish speaker I would recommend the reina Valera Bible http://www.amazon.com/Spanish-Bible-Reina-Valera-American-Society/dp/1585160784/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222031849&sr=1-2
For an English speaker I would recommend the New International Version http://www.amazon.com/Holy-Bible-NIV-International-Version/dp/B000O9Y5OE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222031956&sr=1-1 It's easy to read and straightforward

The king james bible is useless, its in Old english. I like the jewsalem bible, but skip over the added books.

I like the Contempory English Version,published here in the U.K by Harper Collins,ISBN0 00 220197 6 (hardback)
It is very readable and very accurate, although no translation is perfect.

NASB is my number 1- for same reasons stated above. I like the KJV as well for reference

an excellent website to cross refernce over 10 or so versions as well as research the Hebrew/Greek words originally used is www.blueletterbible.org
Among other versions used there are KJV NKJV NASB AVS NASV ESV NLT

For an adult male I recommend a hollowed out bible with a Whiskey bottle inside.....you look spiritual while getting full of "the Spirit."

A study Bible with two or more translations is best. The KJV is easier to memorize, in most cases, and is good no matter what church you go to. With the side by side translations there would be little room for him to not get the basic meaning. A good modern translation is the NASB. It's so good my brother in law used it to cheat in latin and greek class.
