Working out in a single country such statistics is difficult enough but on the global scale which (I understand is the case here)it's really impossible, anyway 9000 out of six billion having sex globally at any moment must be way too low. Or perhaps the above refer to a small country or part of a country rather than the whole world.

Let's see, if the average person has sex about twice a week, for about half an hour a time (poor deprived average people!) that means they spend around 0.6% of their time having sex, which means that, at any one time, 0.6% of the population should be having sex. In a world with 4 billion adults, that's around 24 million people. Obviously there's a large margin of error, but I think that's probably correct to within an order of magnitude. It's certainly closer to the mark than the original figure. Anybody got any better calculations?

24 million is probably OK as a rough average though not all humans are sexually active, some are underage, some are overage, in many societies sex before marriage is forbidden.
