yadda: Did you know the GB sometimes debate things, present different interpretations, vote on things and only require a 2/3rd majority to make some change?

True enough, and we have heard that (agh, said that ourselves) plenty of times. The time it worked very well, however, was with a dear family member who was studying and really getting into it... she married an inactive witness and had never been one herself. This question of mine came after a huge info-mercial from me telling her about all the blood changes, so that she would be prepared and educated, and not let her baby boys die! The question haunted her for days after that... indeed, my hope is that it haunts her still.

The "silver bullet" moment for me was simple. Just one scripture. Luke 21 v 8.

"He said: "Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time has approached.’ Do not go after them"

That alone got me thinking and investigating.

.......that was the first question I asked ronnie hunter and paul barrie when being lovingly shepherded by them.......ronnie hunter said......never....never!!!!!........then tell them to get the wee blue book "the truth that leads to eternal life" ....

on page 9 it quotes dean acheson who said in 1960....."in 15 years this world is going to be too dangerous to live in".....that brings us to the magical year 1975.......then get them to check their watchtower cd-rom....where it says.....

Also, as reported back in 1960, a former United States Secretary of State, Dean Acheson, declared that our time is “a period of unequaled instability, unequaled violence.” Based on what he knew was then going on in the world, it was his conclusion that soon “this world is going to be too dangerous to live in.”

so one says "in 15 years".......the other...."soon"

why would they change this if only to hide the fact they were again pointing to 1975 as the "end"....

things to make them say.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm????!!!

If Jehovah is omnipotent and omniscient and loving, and his message for mankind so incredibly important, why did he write a book that can be interpreted and misinterpreted in so many ways by sincere, humble, godfearing individuals? If it is Gods will for all men to be saved, why is the bible so bloody confusing? cheers pak

I posted this a year ago and did not get much response but I think it's a good series of questions.

Me: Do you believe that the FDS and GB are infallible and incorruptible?
JW: No
Me: Then why do you follow them?
JW: Because they are God's organisation
Me: How do you know this?
JW: They follow God's direction in the bible.
Me: How do you know what is God's direction?
JW: By studying the bible
Me: How do you study the bible?
JW: With the WT literature.
Me: How do you know what your are studying is an accurate description of God's direction?

The response of the JW are predictable but sometimes you can get a different answer, you can always improvise, I think something on the same line can work. The important thing I think is to get them thinking.

"V" I would ask two "Silver Bullet" questions from Don Cameron's book, Captives Of A Concept.

1 ) What Is The Most Important Scripture In Watchtower Theology? Ans. Matthew 24:45-47

2 ) What Is The Most Important Event In Watchtower History? Ans. Matthew 24:47. Jesus' decision to appoint them as his faithful and discreet slave, his organization, in spring of 1919.

I doubt that most rank and file member could answer those two questions correctly. Maybe some Elders couldn't even answer those two questions.

Most important scripture in their theology and most important event in their history.
