    Why slam doctors and lawyers?

Actually, what I've heard them say (both from the platform and on the side) is that we won't need any doctors, or lawyers, or accountants, etc. in the New System--so all those years of schooling toward those careers now will have been wasted then, since in the paradise these types of jobs will be obsolete. They've also pointed out (on the side) that what will be needed are clean-up and construction crew, to clean up all the rubble after the destruction of the ungodly men and this wicked system of things. Only Jehovah's Witnesses, of course, and those who actively support them now will be left standing to clear away the debris of 'Satan's old system of things.'

Ah so thats why most JWS are getting trained to be janitors, to clean up all this mess scatter around like dead bodies and such.

Sounds logical, the training starts at the Kingdom Hall

This is just one of many endangering and demeaning aspects of the JWS

Modern religious commercialism at its potential worst

When I got out of high school, they didn't even want me to go to a 2-year college. I was told that the secretarial skills I had learned in high school were all I needed to have a good job. I wanted to become an accountant.

I could forgive them for the advice I was given a few decades ago, but I can't forgive them for giving the young people of today the same bad advice. They haven't learned a thing....

First of all, a "prestigious" career such as being a doctor or lawyer takes more than four years of college. You would do pre-med or pre-law, along with general education, for four years, then go to medical or law school for the terminal degrees of MD or JD, another 3 years, plus whatever residencies or internships are required before one could legally practice. Second, there are a bajillion other things to go to school for besides medicine or law! The Society talks about college as if they don't know shit about it. Oh wait! They don't...

I wonder if that brother was giving his personal opinion on the subject. It seems to me that the society is down on any type of higher education, not just four years or more at a university. When I was in, even vocational schools and community colleges were discouraged. It's possible the elder assigned to give this talk has reservations about it, so he's trying to spin it this way.

    Mrs. Fiorini,

I agree with you. When I was in they discouraged even vocational schools and community college and acted like it was such a big deal. I remember being at a gathering over a decade ago and I had this conversation with two women. One was an older lady and the other was a stuck-up bethelite. They both were disagreeing with me and the younger one was rolling her eyeballs. I was so appalled at the unreality and the ignorance.

    Well of course!

It's just so obvious that all those elementary school teachers & social workers, who studied for 4 or more years, did so for the "prestige".

    Idiots.
