This is the only criteria. It does not address whether you are moral, solvent, sick or well, nice to other people, a good family member, a contributor to the community, working a job that helps mankind in some way, or anything else in normal human endeavor.

In other words - all that matters is that you are ACTIVE.

    Good point J_W

could this be a mind-control tactic employed by the WBTS? Afterall, if you are inactive, you are the same as an adulterer, fornicator, idolater, blood-eater, murderer, theif, etc....

You will share the same fate as these becuase you are "INACTIVE" - where in the bible does it say anything about being active/inactive? I thought Paul said we were righteous due to faith? that if we are righeous by works Christ died for nothing? The inspired bible is taken out of the equation and the WTS cult speak is taking its place.....

I think I da'd myself a few weeks ago. My sister had an elder call me. I wasn't home but recognized the name on my caller ID. It's been nearly 20 years since I saw this particular elder. (I've moved.) My sister was actually in town and didn't call me. I decided to return the call on my terms, no surprise call from him. He sounded shocked to hear me! I told I'm I'd called to see if everything was all right with my sisters. He reassured me it was. He said he'd called to see if I was ready to come back to the truth! I told him No. When he asked why, I told him it was too long of a discussion for the phone but that I no longer considered it the truth. He kept talking about how only Jehovah's people are following the right path despite how busy everyone was. I wasn't going to debate him. I just said to let my sisters know I was here if they needed anything. He got to count about 15 minutes! Sorry, this is off topic...

Yes, and this is basically how all cults evaluate their members. In cults, there is an employer / employee relationship with a constantly running time clock. Members are either "on the clock", or "off the clock". The whole aim of the organizational operation is PRODUCTION.

The thrust of true Christianity is the building up of the individual's character - a transformation of their identity. Jesus expounded upon this with his teachings regarding the "salt of the earth", the "Good Samaritan", and his Sermon on the Mount. It was a focus on one's relationship with God; and how that relationship outwardly manifested itself with their dealings with others.

To the cults, this just isn't good enough.

I wouldn't worry about it. In the JW world, if 2 people didn't hear it / observe it, it didn't happen.

    I love this term "inactive".

It means you are not up off your butt and going to meetings, assembiles, and selling magazines. You are not ACTIVE.

This is the only criteria. It does not address whether you are moral, solvent, sick or well, nice to other people, a good family member, a contributor to the community, working a job that helps mankind in some way, or anything else in normal human endeavor.

James and Jeremy, good points. The terms INACTIVE and ACTIVE are inhumane and impersonal, as if they were referring to a machine that can be switched on or off simply by "good association." No effort or emphasis is put on the personal well-being and betterment of individuals and their connection with their God, it's all about the relationship between units (individual JWs) and the command center (the Society). Are you an ACTIVE UNIT, or INACTIVE UNIT? All righteousness is gained by being an ACTIVE UNIT, by being part of the PRODUCTION LINE.

"Faders, your time is coming! They are coming for YOU!"

I doubt it. I don't think that there is anyone left (besides my siblings) who even remembers me - or knows where I am - or my phone number. I KNOW no one knows my address... but it's not like they couldn't find me - if they really wanted to. I'm right here in the same city of 1.5 million people as they are.

I divorced my first wife years ago - and hadn't been to a meeting prior to that in... ohhh... about 20 years or so. After I got divorced - the ex-wife re-married, and left town - so the 'interest' in little ol' me is nil - zilch - zero. (Did I mention that there is no interest in me?)

I think that this why that she surprised the fella when SHE called him! He had phoned her with another 'elder' on the other line - listening in - so that they would have 2 witnesses to her statemsnts against the organization. Of course - she wouldn't be aware of this - as they never tell you '...and Bro. Voyeur is listening in on the other line...' when they call.

How do I know? Because - 6 years ago - I got 'the call'. I know it was my ex-wifes' doings - she never got a clear-cut answer from me as to what she considered 'fornication' after I left her, and so she had the 'elder' phone me - when she was wanting to get re-married.

Anyway... I answered the phone - and this fella introduced himself as Bro So-and-so. He then goes into asking me if I was '...still interested in being a Jehovah's Witness...'. I almost started to answer him - then remembered their 'two witness rule'. So, instead - I asked him if he had someone else on the line. He said, 'No - but Bro. Voyeur is listening in...' - like that was different - and okay.

So, I told him to 'have a nice day', and hung up on them both. (I may have talked to both of them - if they hadn't been deceptive and tried to lie about having a second person on the line)

What they did after that - I have no idea - nor do I care. I don't think they DF'ed me in absentia - as my JW siblings - and other JWs that I've come across since then - still talk to me.

    Regards,

    Jim TX
