So anyway one of the local Spanish language Congo's Sisters is about seven months pregnant. That's great except for the fact that she has terminal cancer. Horrendous, tumorous, huge growths cancer. The fact that she missed the opportunity to save herself with transfusiond has come and gone, but what about her baby? My wife was "lucky" enough to have been visiting her at the hospital ystarday and got to see the crazy cluster-fark that makes up the "Medical Advisors" for JWs. First the woman's Dr. was PLEADING with her to let him do a C-Section because the cancer is spreading to the fetus (or is endangering the fetus) at 30+ weeks he assured her that the baby will have almost the same chance for a healthy start as a full-term infant, but if she does not let him do the C-Section, that the baby will probably be affected ny the Mom's cancer (or she will die with the fetus en-vitro) Enter the HRC. They advised the Mother that if the baby is "born" early, then the hospital will almost certainly give him a blood transfusion. Short-cut: No C-Section per Mom and Dad (and of course the cult that rules their lives). If we are still here in two months I will update this.

Amos,
This is unbelievably sad. The WTS' unbending Pharisaical rule over their people is nothing short of manslaughter. Maybe even murder. I feel so angry at the HRC whose main goal is to monitor the situation to see if -- what, they should disfellowship the terminal mother for allowing a transfusion for her yet-unborn child? Where is the father in all this?
This forum will still be here in early December. I have a feeling the update will not bring better news.

The family needs to sue these SOBs for practicing medicine without a license. They have no business giving out medical advice and it is against the law to do so. The comments should also be told to the doctor who might also press charges

Take THIS to the DOCTORS:
Jehovah's Witnesses, Blood Transfusions and the Tort of Misrepresentation" by Kerry Louderback-Wood in the Journal Of Church And State, Vol. 47, Autumn 2005
It's easy to get a copy of just the essay. Google KERRY'S name.
You are welcomed.

I know that the HLC is the Hospital Liason Committee, but what is the HRC?
Why can't they just let the parents decide what is best for their family?

I started asking my wife questions like "what is the Dr.'s name" and "what hospital is she in" and got the usual deer in headlights, circle the wagons, JW response.
I did ask her "so you knew what my reaction would be so why did you even tell me?"
Let them die. I guarantee that I will not go to the Memorial I am so pissed off. -

I'm sure that poor woman and her husband are frightened and desperate. I wish they'd listen to the doctor, I wish they had listened to the doctor. I don't want to hear the update - there doesn't seem to be any way it could turn out OK.
