I think the Watchtower is a drug, its teachings designed to separate you from human society,
both build you up and let you down and get you addicted to the "high" (everlasting life,
perfect world system, having the truth while everyone else is ignorant.
My mother is totally addicted. My father wasn't, he knew it was total BS, but hung
around the witnesses, well I'm not sure why he hung around the witnesses other
than out of habit.
They get kids and addict as many of them as possible. Total submersion addicts them
better, so keeping them out of college and extra curricular activities keeps their brains
doped up on the Society's drug.
I wanna new drug, one that won't make me sick.
one that won't make nervous wondering what to do

Yes it is. Karl Marx did say that religion was the opium of the people. It's escapism, like the trashy romance novels my loyal JW mother reads...

What a great analogy! No wonder those of us who are leaving feel like "cold turkey"
My problem is I have gone on to another more addictive drug......JWD !!! I spend much more time on here than I ever did in Field Circus or at the Kigdumb Hell !
KInd regards

I believe it is an addiction as well. I know my jw gets his 'fix' of dubland every other day. If you think about it a jw actually only has 3 (and sometimes only 2) non dubby days out of 7. I wonder what will happen come Jan? Do you suppose the addiction is different for the men? The men can feel important when they get to hold the microphone (good grief, sounds like I am writing about a second grader who gets to go get the video projector) do the talks and other so called privileges the men get to have (the royal toilet brush maybe?) Will there be a need for the men to all have their 'turns' at the 'privileges'? will they be farther and fewer between? Will their psyche suffer because they are not 'needed' by the cong as much and what will fill the addiction for them? ugh, please don't say more service!

I agree. As well, continuing to be on a site like this after all the issues have been worked out is an addiction. Addictions are hard to break. Easier to change to another, less harmful one.

I agree with you Carla. Men love to get rewards, they love respect.
Self respect comes very hard for most men because most men
compare themselves to other men in terms of material goods and
most men can't afford a lot of material goods and even if they
can they still want more.
Its a penis size issue. My house is bigger than your house, my
car fancier. Its in men's genes, they are nothing but great apes
without as much hair.
I got to carry the microphone, I am the assistant to the assistant
literature servant. I ate it up when I was a JW. Boy, going to
Bethel will kick that right out of you. You get an overdose of
it there and generally just want to be left alone after a while.
Never fear the lack of titles and goals that the Watchtower can
come up with for men to strive for. -

Well, there is no god, so unfortunately, all we have is each other.
Hope we figure that out soon.
