Difference? Nasal spray is a live virus and the injection is not a live virus. Chances of getting the flu from the nasal spary is higher than the injection. I always get the injection - I'm a nurse.

Best remedy for any type of cold or virus get plenty of rest and fluids if you have fever that does not respond to Tylenol you need to see a doctor. Not a bad idea to see a doctor if your symptoms are not better in 48 to 72 hours with almost anything. Only cure for cold and virus is time, rest and fluids, sorry no magic pill.

Ever since I nearly lost a muscle in my shoulder from the flu. Apparently flu can do that. Destroy muscles

WHAT? I never heard this, but then I have never really "looked into it". How did it happen Jgnat? Was it little by little, like atrophy? Was it all of a sudden while you had the flu? Did it degrade the tendons...(I am thinking like torn rotater cuff?) Would the destruction be permanent?

Did you build up your muscle later? How long did it affect you and how did you first realize this was happening? Thanks.

I have never had a flu shot, and I never get sick. They offer it free at work... not interested.

I had the flu. I got over it. Shortly after I noticed I could not lift my left arm over my head. I showed my doctor-sister, kind of like as a party trick. She told me it was from the flu. I had no pain. I just couldn't lift my arm. Function slowly returned over the next year. From my quick google browse, it appears I had a rare side-effect called myositis.

Rarely, inflammation of muscles (myositis) or of the sac surrounding the heart (pericarditis) complicates influenza. Inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), the spinal cord (transverse myelitis), or nerves that branch off from the spinal cord (Guillain-Barré syndrome) may also develop. These complications may be the result of the body's immune system being overstimulated from fighting the influenza virus.

My sister also casually remarked that flu can attack the heart and the coronary system, resulting in heart attack. The attached article suggests that up to 37% of cardiac events follow a flu type attack:

See? There are things out there scarier than the side effects from a flu vaccination. Thanks to that incident eight years ago, I passionately hate the flu.

Since you have a sister-doctor maybe she has given you advice on vit. C. Do you think the powder packets are more effective than the pills? I have read a long time ago that the hard pills like c's and b's sometimes do not even digest and are worthless. Just wondering what you think about it...and anyone else that wants to answer, also.

My mt says take vit c every hour, but I think that's too much.

My sister has never spoken about vitamin C. My friends at Alberta Health tell me it's placebo at best. By the way, the body cannot store vitamin C, so if you overdose, all you do is pee it out. Do it too much, you strain your kidneys. The pills must digest, because I've experienced the aforementioned side effect. I don't know what a "mt" is (Mother Teresa?) (Must Trustmore?) (Medical Technician?) but I would think very small doses every hour would do no harm. So maybe the powder would be more effective that way. Especially if you drink it with plenty of water. (Rest and fluids, remember?)

What to do..I have never had any vaccine shots....only as a child. I got a vaccination..and tetanus shot...

Now the Drs are telling me I must get both..the flu and pnemonia..it seems that I am at high risk now because I had a heart attack. (Stents placed)

Wouldn't you know I woke up yesterday with a very sore throat and runny nose and achy all over.It's being around all those old people at the Medicare insurance meeting..I know they gave me the bug...I was praying I didn't have the flu!..

Now I have to wait till I am over this bug...thank god it isn't the flu.

And yet the thought of injecting all those foreigh bodies in my body scares me to death! I'll probably die from

fright!...

ps...I will NOT take the mist...I remember years ago when the oral polio first came out and a lot of kids ended up getting polio from it.I'lll stick with the shot.

Snoozy, I ended up trying something new. (Usually I just drink useless cough syrup) Anyway I tried mucinex after I posted this a few weeks ago. This stuff really did seem to help, but you need to drink a lot of water so it will work.

That's where I got it from!...

My JW MIL used to tell us that all the time! For a long time I didn't think the JW's would go to doctors..i thought it was against their religion. That was back in the late 50's.
Drs. still made house calls then. My hubby had been sick and she had a "Spectrum light box" that would cure all your ills..well it didn't.No surprise there..

We called the Dr to come and treat hubby and my JW MIL warned me to "Hide the light from the Dr." as they frown on that kind of thing and (My words) " would probably think we were all a bunch of nuts! "

I felt like I had to sneak when it came time for my daughters first checkup..and heaven forbid if she found out I allowed her to have her baby shots.Her and my hubby used to gang up on me.

I guess that stayed with me...I still don't trust man made vaccines. The Polio vaccine was made from plasma..someone that had mad cow disease donated blood for the vaccine and there was a big scare because of it.

Snoozy...who just looked up oral polio vaccine scandals..
