the sorrow of being disfellowshipped, cut off from the Christian congregation as though dead. Unless these repent, turn around, and are accepted back into the congregation, they also face physical death by “deadly plague”—at the latest, in the great tribulation

Recently, a video was shown on this board of an elder in a courtroom stating under oath that JWs don't "shun" df'd people. Oh, how I wish the lawyer could have whipped out a statement like this from a WT to present as evidence! The elder was lying through his teeth!

This is exactly their view AND TREATMENT of disfellowshipped people, young or old.

    Dignity? I don't think so....

"We do not have to be astronomers to marvel at the night sky nor chemists to enjoy bread."

So I guess JWs only eat "Wonder" bread.

    Sheesh. Talk about dumbing down.

    Thanks Blondie.

I'll get through this somehow. Probably snoozing and daydreaming about hot, buttered, home-made bread and it's relationship to God's name.

    ;-)

The article blurb on the inside front cover says that is is intended to show us the "effects that an appreciation for Gods dignity should have on us" & learn how we show dignity. - Does it achieve that?

Personally I could think of little else but this song

"Seaching High , searching low, searching everywhwere I go....Asking everywhere I go, "Have you seen Dignity' " - Bob Dylan.

Anyway,, this is one of those articles where you believe that the writer has just opened his concordance at the word Dignity, listed all the scriptures that use the word and then strung then together with a few connectives....

P1 asks us to define the word..I would disagree with their definition."The quality or state of being worthy, honoured or esteemed" . As I have understood the word, dignity is a description of ones conduct, not a quality of the heart. eg, a condemned man could walk to the scaffold with dignity, although he would not be a worthy person. Am I wrong?

After discussing God's creative achievents in the imeasurable Universe, we turn to bread ..Huh? Yes, bread. Apparently it is remarkable how the chemical compounds of the ingredients combine to make a loaf...So? where do we go with that illustration? Nowhere, we come to a new sub heading..What was the point of that?

We then discuss how Jesus dignified everybody, even lepers . Fine, there was a high point in par 16 where it said that "All humans.....deserve honour and respect" and "Elders need to dignify those in their care and help them preserve their self respect"...Hmm. my fellow posters have already commented on that. Even the Study Conductor today said that he was going to note that reference for the next time a C/O or fellow elder spoke with him.

Finally we are told to display dignity in dress and conduct - well, they had to , didn't they?

Somehow, I think Bob Dylan worded it better, by not stating the obvious but allowing you to think:

"So many roads, so much at stake
So many dead ends, I'm at the edge of the lake
Sometimes I wonder what it's gonna take
    To find dignity"

What the hell is all this nonsense about bread? If bread is such a wonderful creation of Joe Hobo the Celestial Baker, then why didn't Adam and Eve eat it? They ate fruits! In fact, Genesis chapter 3 records the fall from the Garden. And in paragraph 19, one of the CURSES that Joe Hobo the Candlestick Maker places upon Adam is that he will "eat bread in the sweat of his brow!" Yes, according to the Bible, bread is actually a curse from Joe Hobo! So much for this study article!

And furthermore, the WTBTS tries to paint the Isrealites as being so cruel for "shunning" the leper. THEY WERE FOLLOWING WHAT THE FUCKING OLD TESTAMENT SAYS! The scriptural references to the OT laws (which, among other things, stated that lepers must tear their clothing, not comb their hair, call out "unclean", and live apart from the rest of men) ARE RIGHT THERE IN THE PARAGRAPH! How god damn deaf, blind, dumb, and STUPID are these morons to sit there tearing the Isrealites up for just following what the Bible commands, and then turn around and do the exact same thing to DFd persons which has far less specific Bible rules applying! Every time I read this fucking trash it gets me spitting mad. Sorry for all the cursing.

So these people are dignified, eh?

I wonder where the dignity is in turning the back on people - is that really dignified?

I wonder where the dignity is in snatching a child patient out of hospital so that it doesn't get a blood transfusion? - is that dignified?

This was one weird article. I kept trying to see what was the point - I couldn't come up with anything.

They want people to be dignified? OK. 99.9% of the world thinks "dignity" is a good idea. What's your point?

The whole thing seems insulting to me how they have to presume to teach people basic fundamentals. Dignity is a human right and I don't need a religion or anybody else telling me it is alright. I also consider it to go hand in hand with self-respect.

I always felt the religion has issues with people having self-respect. I got the sense that some there begrudged me my self-respect.

    Dear Blondie,

You have my undying admiration. How can you do it?

That study was the greatest load of aimless drivel I have ever read.

But you went through it and made some sense of it.

Thank you, your devotion to duty is remarkable. We are all in your debt.
