For those of you who don't know JWD has it's own cookbooks!!! Two of them in fact

    http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/cookbook.aspx

The first book, was made available to forum posters for a fee. Proceeds went to help pay some of the expenses to keep the forum online

"Food at the Proper Time" eCookbook

Food at the Proper Time is a compilation of recipes from around the world submitted by the participants of the JW Discussion forum. Many of the contributors are ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses who are not permitted to associate with family because they have either left or been expelled from the religion. When leaving the religious community, most understand that their opportunity to sit with family and friends over a table and share food will be seriously limited or non-existent. Few realized how painful this lack of connection would be.

For many the JWD community has become the source of friendships, family and healing. When possible small groups have met in their local areas to enjoy the friendship, support and understanding from others who fully understand their losses. And one important activity is the sharing of food, sometimes in a local restaurant and sometimes at someone’s home.

This cookbook is another way to share this meeting together and connection to community. We have come together to share our recipes and in doing so, free ourselves from the man-made rules of the religion we once believed in. We have worked on this project with a couple of goals: to share fine food and friendship and to help support the discussion board where we meet from all over the world. Therefore all proceeds of this book will go to help support and maintain the JWD and to help defray expenses and keep the board active and growing.

    Lee Marsh, Editor

The second book, "Food in Due Season" was put together for a slightly different reason and was made available for free.

Due to the Jehovah’s Witness prohibition against the celebration of holidays few of those who leave have learned the traditions of the holidays. Some have had to struggle with learning these traditions or create their own. This is our attempt to share with others some of the foods we have come to enjoy.

As our gift to each other we offer this free to all the posters of JWD and their friends and family.

Each e-cookbook is filled with the favorite recipes of many of the posters here. I know you will enjoy them.

    Lady Lee -

    I did not know that.

However, I don't know if I can get past the titles of the books enough to use them!

compared to some of the titles that were suggested these are tame

and it was a way to take a negative worn-out phrase and turn it into something good and far more filling than any WT "banquet"

    For Chocoholics.....Ultimate Double Chocolate Cookies

I made these 2 days ago....better than brownies, but beware...very rich! I chilled them overnight, and only made 12 per day.

1 bag (11.5oz) Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Chips

    6 T. unsalted butter (3/4 stick)

    3 eggs

    1 cup sugar

    1/3 cup all purpose flour

    1/2 tsp. baking powder

    1 bag (12oz) Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

    1 Cup chopped Walnuts

    ....................................................Yield 2 dozen cookies..................................................................................

In a double boiler over hot water, melt the bittersweet chocolate chips and butter. In a large bowl with electric mixer, beat eggs and sugar until thick stir in melted chocolate mixture.

In small bowl, stir together flour and baking powder, stir into chocolate mixture. Gently mix in semi -sweet chips and walnuts.

Using sheet of plastic wrap, form dough into two logs, each 2 inches in diameter and about 8 inches long. As dough will be very soft, use plastic wrap to hold dough in log shape. Wrap tightly. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until very firm. (If chilled overnight it will take the full 14 minutes to bake.)

Preheat oven to 375F.. Unwrap dough; with sharp knife cut into 3/4 inch slices. Place slices 1 and 1/2 inches apart on greased or parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until shiny crust form on top but interior is still soft.

    Cool on baking sheet.

    Lady Lee,

Maybe I'll print these out, spiral bind them, and give them as gifts to my JW family. he he he

I don't have time to look at them right now, maybe in the next day or so. I'm in the midst of a big laundry project, trying to sort out the clothes my boys have outgrown. Takes forever, they don't want to try clothes on all day. Gotta keep dragging them back.

I have about a gallon of green cherry tomatoes that I picked right before the frost killed my tomato plants.

Any recipes for green tomatoes, and no relishes, please.

I downloaded the free ebook and found Lee's recipe for Plum Pudding. However, it has to sit for four weeks.

Mrs. Cratchitt served her plum pudding the day she made it. Anybody have any good plum pudding recipes that can be eaten right away?
