I have noticed that the "wait until the new system for children" montra has seemed to go away in the past few years from the WT. I am thinking that they realized that if the dubs stop having children, then they will stop growing in numbers. As a result, they have stopped putting in writing that the dubs should wait to have children.
No children until the new system---Has this changed?

I think there are a lot of people who feel that way and a lot of people who don't feel that way...
Believe me, they ALL give me there opinion now that I'm pregnant...

I said this on another thread. The Armageddon is just around the corner line is nothing but pure Bull. I could never understand that type of thinking. IF they have the truth, they have Jah's Blessing, right? During the big "A", wouldn't they "dwell 'neath God's Wing? ...They even sing about that in the song "Jehovah is my Refuge." So, what do they have to fear? They and the Child would be protected by Jehovah. Isn't this what they are supposed to believe? Or is it that they do not trust their own faith?

Cognac, Congratulations on your baby! What a wonderful thing for you and your husband.
OTOH, I hope you find a really good 'dirty look' to give on to those who are anything less than enormously happy for you and overjoyed at your good news.
My own mom thought it necessary to remind me what a horrible world it was yada yada yada(you know all the current ways they like to make happy pregnant women miserable merely because their lives are entirely without any real hope and they want you to share in their misery)
I have 3 kids, and I don't regret them for a minute. They are the biggest incentive to life, joy and happiness. Not easy, but all the hope of the world-every mommy's hopes are wrapped up in that tiny baby in your womb.Don't forget it for a minute while you are carrying him or her inside of you-and don't forget it for a minute when you are holding him in your arms, or leading him by hand, or giving him a hug as you leave them at college.
And remember to look at other people and their kids and realize that they are part of that hope and dream too. Every hope of every human is wrapped up in wanting the future to be better for them. In the OT, those folks wanted their children to live that way with hope and a peace and joy. Strangely, many JW's think that in some way their children will detract from that hope. I think that is sad.
Be happy. You will never be as beautiful as when you first hold your new babe. -

I haven't seen it in print for a while but many of the older JWs still feel this way and so do the many in their 40's who don't have children. The thought being that it would be easier to survive the end without worrying about a child. For instance, if you have to flee or maybe hide and remain quiet for days during the great tribulation, that its a burden and almost impossible to do this with a child. You are as good as dead.
Some still chose to wait until they are "on the other side of this system" before having kids and some are even waiting until then to get laid, I mean married (can you say looney?) However, its still billed as a personal decision. A lot of younger JWs are actually planning out their families now as they get married and with no shame at all. They plan to work and save money for about 2 years and then start a family. No mention of pioneering, reaching out or anything super spiritual. But I'm sure like so many other things the general consensus on this issue varies by congregation or region.
Of the couples that have chosen not to have kids, not all will admit it, but some do wish they had kids. I know of at least two couples in their early forties that are now on treatments to help them out. One of the couples is now considering adoption. Not sure how well that will go over. The few folks that are in the know are already judging their spirituality and talking about them taking on a "burden" this late in the system. Of course, the answer is for the wife to spend more time with the young ones in the hall and maybe spend the time she would use taking care of the kid to occupy herself in the pioneer work (she's not a pioneer). I simply respond with some impartial response when I want to shout "Do you realize how CRAZY this sounds?"
The whole thing is really messed up.

Cognac - Hang in there! Pregnancy is a wonderful time, enjoy every second! I too got serious hell and comments of disappointment during both of my pregnancies but it was totally worth it!
If you are born after 1975, just remind the naysayers that you are glad your parents took the chance, and weren't you suppose to have been born in the new system?..... I was born just prior to 1975, and used the 'I was the suckling babe" comment to ward off the idiots.

Iwonder17,
The revival of "don't marry, and if you do, don't have kiddos' is being drummed a bit strong right now, VERBALLY. However with many JWs entering into unevenly yoked marriages only those JWs married to JWs are likely to heed this call.

Re: No children until the new system
I firmly believe to this day that the WTS. was trying coerce people to not have children for reason that it would cause an distraction
from the service work which would have an effect of lessening of the circulation of their literature, better to have people pushing literature
than wasting time with the distractions of children.
This but one of many sickening things that the power and money hungry assholes in Brooklyn played out on to their followers

I was pregnant in 1975. My daughter was born in March 1976... She is 32 now with kids of her own. I'm really glad I didn't listen to all the nonsense...
Of course it went back further than that.... my mom and dad went together for 10 years because jws weren't supposed to marry... They married in 1949 after that eased up a bit. Then of course, they weren't supposed to have children...but they had me anyway (in 1952) So there would be generations of my dad and mom who wouldn't exist if they had listened to the watchtower.
