What IS the goal of Watchtower Society anyway?

Being a 2nd Gen JW raised from age 4 or 5 until I walked away around 40 or so, I always thought the goal of being a JW was twofold:

    1) Glorify God by preaching the good news (and to save people's lives)

    2) warn those who wont listen (so the worldly people cant say they werent warned)

and a 3rd thing was to go to meetings and read the literature and the Bible to know how to be good moral JWs and know how to go in service.

It seems in recent years that the so-called Good News is so watered down (compared to some of the more in your face fiery messages of the past) that no one even pays JWs any attention ..... unless some baby dies of no blood transfusion or a pedophile finally gets caught,....but how often does that happen? What kind of message was this recent tract (or as WTWizard calls it...Waste of Paper) Campaign trying to "spread"? Recently I seen literally dozens of these tracts on the ground in front of doors or blowing in yards..

I know of no one ever to come into the "Truth" (TM) via a tract.

and the JWs have been crying wolf for so long (with other end time groups) that no one believes the message......if there were a nuclear mushroom cloud on the horizon and JWs were pointing at it...no one would believe them because they have been singing this stupid story for so long..

It appears that Jehovah's Witnesses, in the grand (macro) scheme of things is really a non-group. Oh, in the minds of the JW's (micro) ..they are a big deal...but everyone else...

so what the hell is the Watchtower trying to accomplish these days? I cant figure it out....

7 million JWs vs nearly 7 billion people.... barely a blip.

The goal of The Watchtower is to continue to exist.

To do that it needs mermbers slaves. People who will devote their entire lives to supporting it.

It really is as simple as that. Pretend that they have been chosen by Jehvoah, get the people to believe that, and continue on to gather property and resources.

The only way that this false religious book publishing company will vanish is if all The Watchtower corporations went bankrupt.

Truth doesn't matter, the continuation of the Organization (or Organism) is the only thing that does.

    hope...

Watchtower is a MLM as ACN is a MLM...

Both have a "product" that makes them legal (WT has religion, ACN has telephone service)

But neither make any money on their "product"...these are in fact '"loss leaders."

The main goal is people....bring them in...get them to donate as much time and especially money as possible.

In the case of WT, they have a twist.......as you said....leave money for them in your will when you die.

    VM44,

I would have to agree with you. The goal of any organization or government is its continued existence or self-perpetuation.

Even if something started out with a noble goal it always ends up like this. I feel that all religions fit into this category. Those at the top do not want to lose their situation or else it will mean they will have to go out and earn a living like the rest of the world. Naturally, this is to be avoided at all costs. It is much more pleasurable to have gullible people looking up to you and treating you as a demi-god or a celebrity. No wonder there are so many eager brown-noses looking to climb this theocratic ladder. I feel this is what is behind the recent rash of anointed claims. Even if these people don't get GB status, there are those in local halls who will give them this extra measure of what they are looking for.

funny how when your in (or at least mentally in) it all seems so simple. THE NEW SYSTEM IS COMING - jesus commanded we preach its coming, after all: this good news of the kingdom will be preached... yada yada yada.......

But now, when you see the evidence, and you look at the org as the business that it is, what is the objective? To survive! There is no divine intervention happening here.

the JW's have no worries about the future of the org because "its Jehovahs organization" - what can man do to us?
But can you imagine sitting at the table with the other directors watching your assets shrink, your costs escalate, your donations per publisher dwindle and compounded by growth stagnating and youth retention the lowest of any religion?

I say "directors" as the GB have disconnected themselves from the business side of things but you know the "directors" are presenting the bleak financial future of the org to the GB and laying out on the line all the back-doors they need close. The potential new "back doors" that could open and the competition they face in keeping the attention and focus of the R&F. Then add to that the "cry wolf" factor. Can you imagine being one of those decision makers? What would you be thinking????

"Oh dont worry, jehovah will fix it" - ya right!!!!!!! They print all those "Jah fixed it" stories in the WT but we all know it was from a scramble by decision makers to get things done. Here is what I think they are saying across that big boardroom table:

"Hey there GB, you need to get these people motivated, keep the R&F from leaving, get them out in service more to recruit new ones so we can show growth, do whatever you can to keep the children in the org, appeal to there desires and fears (you know, like the tobacco industry does!)
We need to cut costs, cut labour, cut volume, cut liability, sell properties, find ways to get the cong's to give us more cash - like "banking" their excess funds with us. We need to do all of this while not giving them the impression that we are slowing down or cash strapped.
We need them to get motivated by these reductions and sell-offs.
We need to connect all these cost saving measures to a "last days" scenario. We cant afford to scare anymore away so back down on the meetings per week and reduce the number of pioneer hours.
We need to keep them away from the internet, there is too much information on there about us. We need to make them scared of knowledge, the information age is killing us, we need to reinforce the evils of knowledge in every magazine and assembly theme.
We need to do whatever we can to protect the R&F from making their own decision to serve Jehovah, that is too dangerous! We need to make sure they are to scared to leave! to know that if they "slow down" the cong will view them as "bad association", and if they seek out info on the internet or even think about questioning the GB that Jehovah will know they are an apostate in their hearts and they will die at Armageddon, and if they get DF'f they will lose all their family and friends and that they wont even allow them to funerals!

If we dont act now we our numbers will decline and start a downward spiral that will create disullusionment among the R&F, they will wonder why Jehovah isnt "speeding up the work". They will tire even more and start saving for their futures. If we decrease in numbers what will we say? We will look like fools!

If i was a board member/a decision maker at the WTS right now, I dont imagine I would be "waiting on Jehovah" to fix things . I would be hussling my ass off to save the org from a financial disaster. I wouldnt be surprised if the WTS were hiring consultants from the corporate world to get them back on track. Oh but of course, Jehovah would be using those consultants to accomplish his ministry......

The goal of the WTS is, as has already been pointed out, survival.

CT Russell brought forth a gremlin. Rutherford added water to it and turned it into a monster. The monster needs to be fed.

The monster feeds on gullible minds and any cash it can convice the owners of those gullible minds to part with.

    Homerovah the Almighty

Commercialization of literature which just happens to be of a religious nature, with the sole intent to procure financial gains.

It may look like a religion and may act like one but the real underlining goal is to control people with the intension to propagate their their own publishings

In the heart of the WBTS. is it really about saving as many as people as possible from destruction ?

    I don't think so

Since the WBTS blew every prediction they ever came up with, I agree, the goal is to exist, survive.

I polled many people before I left as to what their current thoughts of the preaching work were. No two opinions were alike, and few were about a life saving message. Most were about FS being a opportunity for them to be together for "encouragement." They realized as a whole, there were more effectual ways to advertise their message than door to door. (Generalizing here.)

I think the ultimate goal of the Washtowel Slaveholdery is to own everyone and everything and to control all "knowledge". Effectively, to plunge the whole world into the Second Dark Ages.

Hopefully the Waste of Paper Distribution Campaign will not further that objective.
