There is no argument you can win with dedicated JWs on this topic. Understand that their anti-education teaching has a self-serving organizational purpose. The JW mentality is this: People who go to college are not going to be dubs anyway, so let's alienate them now and let them leave.

If you insist on developing critical thinking skills, they don't want you.

you could develop a response based on WTS literature that shows the more flexible attitude shown towards further education - see Nov 1st 1992 WT - Education With A Purpose

    http://www.freeminds.org/doctrine/education_anderson.htm

if he doesn't respond you have made your point and possibly made him think

if he does respond it's likely to be along the lines of 'new light' etc

You can then respond back with the 1969 Awake quote (saying you have been doing extra research on education policy to keep yourself off the apostaradar) - suggest to him the WTS have changed policy back and forth a few times and you are worried about being caught in the middle of a 'education is bad' period - who knows they may flip back again soon as they have done in the past?

Losch speaks against going to university because it is not necessary to do so to become a "success" in The Watchtower World.

It is apparent the "Mr" (not going to call him "brother") Losch lives completely in that fantasy world and could care less about how people will make a living.

Wow, your friend is in deep. That's sad. I found it funny he said this man didn't use his own thoughts, but only what was from the watchtower. Doesn't he get that the ideas from the watchtower ARE this man's own thoughts - he's GB. Your friend seems to think the watchtower is inspired.

The WT does NOT want ones to be independent thinkers... just read tha WT and ans the Q's from the DAM paragraph, that all you need to do. WE WILL DO THE THINKING FOR YOU.

I think the email is mostly correct. She's right. Education of any kind, or independent thinking of any kind, is a risk to a jw because it will probably open their eyes. The wts doesn't prevent people from attending college (now) but strongly discourages it and labels those who do as weak. She's right about that too.

There's plenty wrong with this organization that would make for a stronger argument than this topic, IMO.
