I agree we should cut each other some slack.
However, I also believe that the burden of intent is on the writer not the reader. If a writer is sloppy and ambiguous with his words or harsh or doesn't indicate clearly that they are being tongue in cheek, then they bear a greater amount of responsibility on being misunderstood that the reader does.
I have been guilty of this myself on this board and in other places and have been confronted. When misunderstood, I apologize and explain again what I meant and try to do better the next time I write something.
It also helps to think about responses and review them before posting them. That would have saved me a lot of embarrassment if I had done so in the past on a couple of circumstances for sure.
