A friend of mine has 'reminded' me of how much I loved looking up into the heavens and gazing at the twinkling lights. I love the stars, planets, galaxies, nebulas. Their designs, colours, vastness, the endless renewal of light. All these many millions of miles away and yet so breathtaking.

Makes one feel quite tiny on this little blue planet. There is so much to see up there. I haven't got myself a telescope yet, but I'm reading up on what's up there, looking at pics on the web, have found a fantastic wikisky site. It's all really awesome.

I live far enough away from the city that I can see a lot of things in the sky on a clear night.

Right now I'm saving up for a new telescope:

I look up there sometimes, and I think - Hober created all of this and adam and eve screwed it up.

My husband and son are big astronomy fans .We have a telescope that is motorized to follow the object you are viewing . When our kids were little we would wake them up to come out in the back yard to watch meteor showers .We would get sleeping bags and lay on the trampoline .

The best stargazing has been on trips to the mountains in Colorado while camping . This year we attended an astronomy club gathering at Rocky Mountain National Park . They had amazing telescopes ! One was so large we had to climb a ladder to look in the viewfinder and we could see spinning galaxies everywhere ...so cool .

    Ninja,

I was like you growing up and living in the northwestern (Washington state) US and never seeing the sun. I had to move before I could discover what moon, stars, planets, and most importantly THE SUN really looked like. I knew only clouds and rain 300 days a year. It's so nice to be in umm..."Greenland."

If you go out tonight and look to the west you will see a giant "Smiley Face" made up of the Moon (mouth), Jupiter and Venus (eyes).

    ):

(It might be too late for those on the East coast (has gone below the horizon), but those on the West coast should still be able to see it.
